Default What is this transmission piece?

I drained my transmission fluid today and this was stuck to the magnetic drain pan. What is it and is it a big deal that it's no longer inside the transmission?

    Thanks,

    Chris

It appears to be a lipseal spring. They are wound around inside the inner diameter of a lipseal.

    Default Trans part

    Chris:

Dan is correct. It is from the input shaft seal .
My question would be how it got past the shaft and into the oil and stayed together.
Wonder if it came out when the seal was installed and someone did not see it and then continued to assemble the trans.
If the trans fluid is not leaking into the bell housing- leave it alone until you get a chance to replace the seal.

I bet it's from the last input shaft seal, and it's been in there for years...
