Default F1000 Road Atlanta Thread 2016

I thought I would start a thread to capture all the happenings for this event. This is such a great class, I really want to see it grow….or at least stop shrinking. If no one else does, I will start one of these for each event that I will attend this year. I would prefer if more FB people decided to all show up at particular events and get the car counts up rather than spread the participation over all the available events….but maybe that’s just me…..I would prefer to place mid or at the back of a strong field over “winning” a “participation” trophy.

Let’s start out with who else is planning on attending?

JR's letting me drive his car - something about he thinks it will sell if I can win in it, and help prove it is a winning car...

    Sorry, Brougham, couldn't resist.
I will be there in the Lathem Zebulon Stohr - the finest example of that make's FB offering on the planet!

So as of today we have only one entry (me), Coop says he is coming and maybe a 3rd in Mike B's car. I'm starting to wonder if it's worth my tow up north. Anyone else planning on racing their FB?

Dude, I'll enter tonight or tomorrow.
Interesting in that Mayer and Hill may come down, you and Prieto come up, and Jose is in, add me and that's 6.

    Default Todays practice session

Looks like Mayer turned a very fast lap in this mornings warm up session. Low 1:21 almost into the 1:20. That puts him right in the middle of the fast Atlantic times.

Shane spun a bearing in practice yesterday and had to do an engine swap. Missed Q1 today. Had the car running this afternoon and should make Q2 tomorrow.

Coop had a fastener come loose in the gear box and jammed his shifting mechanism. He swapped gear clusters only to find out the fastener had damaged the crank. Looks like he is calling off the effort and heading home.....tragic.

Bummer.....well it looks like you get to carry the Kawasaki banner this weekend Joel. Good run in Q1 by the way. I suspect you'll be dropping your times further.

After Q2, the grid is set for race 1:
    1. Alex Mayer-1:20.674
    2. Jeremy Hill-1:22.348
    3. Joel Haas-1:23.684

    5. Jose Gerardo-1:24.602
    6. Pete Frost-1:25.695

Prieto seems to have sorted out his engine problem but Cooper is done.
The threat of rain appears gone so we should have a dry race. Coming up at 3:00!

Mayer is flying, I believe that's about 1 sec off JRO's track record. Like to see Alex better that.

    Final results of race 1:
    1. Alex Mayer-1:21.854
    2. Shane Prieto-1:23.817
    3. Joel Haas-1:24.901
    4. Pete Frost-1:25.557
    5. Jeremy Hill-1:26.477
    6. Jose Gerardo-DNS
    7. Glenn Cooper-DNS

Mayer had a huge lead while Prieto, Haas, and Frost battled early on. Prieto got around Haas and then built up a lead. Hill went out on lap 6. Gerardo didn't make a lap.
Can anyone fill in the blanks on what happened to Hill and Gerardo?

There was a stack up before the start and Jeremy checked up and I almost hit him...Jose hit me and damaged his car and could not continue. Jeremy started leaking fluid on the restart and was out a few laps later. I continued on with damage.
