    Default CM FF Weights

From this thread and the CRB preliminary minutes:

    http://www.apexspeed.com/forums/showthread.php?t=71033

Based on the extra weight of the new spec FF tires, it appears likely that the minimum weight for Kent/Fit cars will go to 1110 from 1100. For CM cars, spec tires don't apply and it appears that we will still be able to get Hoosier or Avon bias slicks. I took a quick look at the Solo rules and I didn't see an exception to the GCR weights for FF cars, so that means that CM FF cars will also go to 1110 unless an exception to the GCR is added to the Solo rules.

So it leads me to wonder if we should adopt the new weight (i.e. do nothing) or request that the CM rules be modified to add a weight exception for FF cars to keep them at the current #1100 for Kent/Fit cars and 1050 for Cortina cars?

Full disclosure, I have a bunch of ballast to get to 1100 so this matters to me, I know plenty of folks are above minimum because they can't get there. Theoretically, this will make the FF cars that are currently at weight 10 lbs slower (ummm, not much) while the Solo V's stay the same. Yeah, it's a pretty small impact, but....

I guess I'd like to see our current weights stay the same.

    Barry,

The best way to resolve is to submit a request for clarification to the Solo Events Board (SEB) via https://www.crbscca.com/. The request will likely then be sent to the Mod Advisory Committee (MAC) who will then discuss and recommend a path forward.

As a current CM driver who is also ballasting to make the 1100 min, I agree. As MAC member, I will have to recuse myself if (when) this comes to our attention.

    Take care,

Thanks Pru. Good advice as always!

I just sent my letter to ask the SEB to consider adding the exception.

I'm curious to hear how other folks feel and also encourage them to write a letter to the SEB with their opinion.

This is an interesting situation, it could be kind of a "hidden" change. The Solo Rule text may not change but, in effect, the rules would. It might be easily missed without a Fastrack change to the Modified rules and it could suck if somebody got DQ'd for being under weight when they didn't even know it was changed.

This is sort of my public attempt to get the word out and, well, maybe keep it from changing. At the end of the day, it's not much of a change but I'd like to make sure the CM guys know about it and consider how we'd like to handle it.

Along with our request, we also need to express our opinion on tires. I would like an exception to the spec tire rule for FFs in CM...

The spec tire exception is already there :-) :

Exceptions to the Club Racing GCR for all cars in this class:
    1. Spec tire requirements do not apply.

1110 would save me some cash...

But I take no issue with 1100, either. I might have found 10 pounds worth of gunk in the belly of my car.

I currently need to add lots of ballast to my car to be legal(when I do). It would be a waist to force us to add even more. If I had a choice I would say for autox min weight should be lowered, maybe 1075.

Is it me or does it seem the SCCA continues to require many mod cars to run higher weights than they were designed to be? I know in Dmod it was suggested that making many of the cars competitive (lighter) was too expensive. It's in expensive for the driver to lose weight.

One concern that has not been mentioned is that all the PAX values that we are based upon are based on 2015 rules, meaning 1100 lbs.

Adding weight will only skew our PAX results....

Not that 10 lbs is a HUGE amount, it still equates to almost 1% of our total weight.... which in Autox terms can mean hundredths of seconds (which we all know count in our discipline)

While I fully understand PAX is truly meant for Pro Solo, we ALL know that we gauge our performance at each and every event based on PAX numbers.

PAX has never been made for ProSolo. Rick hasn't previously make an index for Pros.
ProSolo has had its own index for combined classes and has used Ricks PAX.

The CRB made change via a Techinical bulletin, effective 12/1/2015. For Solo to not be stuck with 1110 the SEB will have to also put out a Techinical bulletin to counteract the CRB's bulletin..

It seems like the intent of adding 10lbs to the FF minimum weight is to minimize the impact of changing to the spec tire. So, by *not* adding the weight to CM FF cars, it stays with the spirit and intent of the GCR change.

I find it odd that they have to add weight to the road race FFord's, why wouldn't the FF class want to take the 10lbs back off there cars?, I know not every car/driver may not get to that weight based on "car" or "driver's" weights but I'll bet there could be lots of FF people that would like to stay the same also.

    Default Change Proposal...

    #18329 FF GCR weight exception

The MAC has noted that the CRB has changed the weights of some of the cars which are eligible for Solo class CM. This implements a change to the minimum weights of certain cars which was not intended and is not considered desirable. In order to correct this oversight the MAC and SEB have provided the following Technical Bulletin:
Add in Appendix A, under class C Modified and renumber subsequent subsections,
    as follows:
“Exceptions to the Club Racing GCR for all cars in this class:
    1. Spec tire requirements do not apply.
    2. Formula F (FF) minimum weight with driver:
    Ford Cortina Engine: 1050 lbs.
Ford Kent and Honda Fit Engines: 1100 lbs.”
