Default Crunch Time For The Kentledge Cup

Okey dokey, it seems with all the fuss going on over the tire debate in FF some racers are feeling a bit jaded. Hopefully the antidote will be The Kentledge Cup! We're at the point now where we really do need an idea of people interested in the Ford only Formula Ford race on your choice of treaded tires at this years ARRC at Road Atlanta - 6th-8th November.

The Atlanta region will allow us to have our own race/qually on the Sunday and what's more they've agreed to allow in vintage cars too! This is great news as it opens up our race to all those lovely older cars with non SCCA legal roll hoops. This should boost numbers and add to the Formula Ford Festival vibe!

For those that are doing the the regular ARRC Formula F race why not hang around until Sunday, throw on a set of treaded tires and join the fun!

Can those that are interested please let me know either by PM, email or simply replying to this thread. If you know of any vintage guys that might be interested please let them know too.

    Thanks!

Sign me up! Sounds like a fun, low pressure event with some good ole FFord racing! I've never been at Road Atlanta in anything other than a rental car and I am looking forward to it.

Seems foreign kids are pretty quick these days so I've decided to adopt an accent since you and Lee have yours as factory equipment. Can't decide if I should go Brit or German.

My hunch is you'll get the hang of RdAtl pretty quickly.

Are you bringing your VD (that we've seen you in the past few years) with treaded tires?

Or maybe Brazilian. I think there were some fast FF drivers from there.

Count me in! Hoping I won't be the only vintage car there. I'll see if I can drum up some interest with some of my vintage buddies.

Yeah Reid, just give em a few "Aw geez's" and "you betcha's", that's as foreign to Georgians as Waffle House grits to a cheesehead.

I have this killer Crosslé in my garage and I wish I could make this race. I'd love to throw the 45 on the open trailer and head east with the Mrs... But alas, I'll be working at the SVRA event at Austin that weekend. Give em hell for me Reid...

    Seven! Nice!

If this was a real FF race like I see on YouTube there will be that many in the weeds by Turn 1!

Can we get a tentative attendance list so we can start the BS'ing?

    Default unlikely

I've had this in my plan all year, but motor issues are likely going to mean I'm out.

I'm willing to loan my set of Toyo's to anyone in the Chicago area who can make the trip, if you mount them back on my wheels when you're done. PM or email if you're interested.

I'll be at the ARRC, probably driving something, but I don't know what yet. I don't own a race car (pretty much for the first time since '84).

I know it's a long shot, but I'd LOVE to drive someone's FF/CFF at the ARRC. I would be perfectly content to drive it at 8/10ths, staying out of trouble. I'd really enjoy being a part of this event Ben and Lee have worked to organize.

Does anyone out there own two FF's, or have a decent car that doesn't have plans for the ARRC weekend? I can do all the prep, transportation, etc.

If I can't get into a FF/CFF, I'll probably be in a SM or IT car.

Too bad that we are so far apart, I have a car that needs a ittle prep and I don't have the time due to a very busy work schedule. If you are ever in Az, pm me and Marshall and we'll get you in a car.

Excellent! Looks like we're approaching 10 cars then. Keep 'em coming. Just to clarify after a few PM's you can run any treaded tire, which basically means Toyo or Avon/Dunlop. And talking BS is actively encouraged too.

Well here it is! Discovered after 45 years and assumed to be lost to the world, the original Kentledge Cup! Awarded to Skid Solo, the winner of the very first and so far only Kentledge cup race held at Road Atlanta in 1968. Hand crafted from 4 rusty Cortinas by English craftsmen this magnificent trophy will be presented to this years winner who's name will be etched into the cup in perpetuity.

    Default ARRC Registration is OPEN

We finally have sanction numbers and registration is now OPEN. Sign up at
    http://msreg.com/ARRC-Participant-Registration2015

Note: Any vintage cars that do not have a current SCCA logbook and annual tech will have to take their car through tech at the track.. or possibly arrange a 'pre-race' tech to get ahead of the game. Contact Gary D'Abate at dab8_scca@yahoo.com if you have questions.

Any cars that wish to 'double dip' and run the ARRC races, MUST have current SCCA logbook and meet all GCR rules. There are exceptions allowed for the Feature race, but NOT for the normal ARRC races.

There is also a test day on Thursday sanctioned by Road Atlanta (NOT SCCA) - Vintage exclusions should be acceptable for that.

Popped along to Brands Hatch today for the Formula Ford Festival whilst I'm back in the UK. Plenty of qualifying and heat races to sort out the 75 or so Kent cars entered. Typical October weather too with a mixture of sun (briefly) and rain. Huge variety of cars from a Lotus 69 driven by its original owner - Tiff Needel- to the latest Rays and Van Diemen chassis with almost everything in between.

How many cars turned out for this? Did running on the Toyo R888's bring out any cars that were previously not being run?

Yup, we were all on either Dunlops or Avons. The weather was truly miserable for the whole weekend and a clash with the COTA race reduced our entries unfortunately. Turn out was poor given the interest earlier in the year but perhaps the Runoffs and endless tire debate diminished support. But from small acorns.... Plans are already afoot for the 2016 Kentledge Cup!

The Atlanta Region did a great job fitting us in and tech for the non SCCA compliant cars was easy which was much appreciated.

Indeed the weather was a contributing factor. Bringing out ALL of Skid Solo's ambitious fans in pits, cars and on the course.

The Formula Ford guys are great!
Thanks to all. Ben & Liegh for the Kentledge Kup creation. ARRC was very accommodating...thanks ever so much. Thanks Chris for the rainy enthusiasm. Thanks Doug for the nail biting Tech session and a very big thanks to Gary for the last minute adjustments. A lap down and they still let me out. LOL
Oh yeah FE guys did excellent work out there too.

Can not wait for the 2016 KC.
