    Default Leak at oil pump

I have a side mount oil pump and it appears to be leaking through one of the screws. I filled the hole with sealer after cleaning it and it slowed down, but I want to stop it. Is there a gasket at the interface to the block that might have failed? Any other ideas?

Yes there is a gasket and yes they leak from time to time. You can get a new gasket from Dave Bean (209)754-5802 and I'd recommend you install it with Gasgacinch.

    Default Pressure Screw Leak

Mine leaks slightly around the pressure adjustment screw. Is there an O ring in there?

Yes. And I could not find the gasket in the Bean catalogue.

If it is at the pressure adjustment, use a Dowty (sp?) seal and a standard washer outside of that. Solved my leak, but only after usin the extra washer. The Dowty seal alone would still leak past to the nut.

I got the gasket from Porter. While I had the pump out I took it apart and found that it is sealed at that junction by an o ring. I applied a very thin layer of gasket sealer to the metal part of the 2 pieces before I put it back together. Will give it a serious test this wkend(2 events).

Still have leak. Enough to be a nuisance, but not keep me from driving. My co driver thinks the fuel pump vent is leaking and maybe the front pan seal. He keeps talking about how tightening the pan bolts is not a good idea because it deforms the pan at the bolts and increases the chance of a leak between the bolts. Any comments/ideas?

Do you have a cast dry sump "pan"? My engine builder used RTV rather than a gasket. Last time the RTV was http://www.permatex.com/products-2/p...r-82194-detail

He also used RTV for the exhaust header rather than using a gasket. Both worked very well for years between rebuilds (autocross car). One time the new rear main seal leaked like a sieve the first time the engine was started. Apparently a bad seal since a new one solved the problem. I don't recall if there is a reliable "fix" for the adjustment screw minor leak.

Yes, cast pan. I have to pull the motor to do anything other than tighten the bolts. Maybe RTV next time.
