Default Steven Davis New Rd Atl Lap Record, 3/21/2015

Congratulations to Steven Davis for lowering the FV lap record at Road Atlanta on Saturday (the dry day of the Majors weekend).

Sorry, I don't know what the new record is. If I run across it I'll come back here and post it (if no one beats me to it).

Thanks guys. I'm pretty sure this means that I have held (at least for SOME time ) the lap record in FV for ALL configurations of Road Atlanta since it's inception. I even held the current configuration for a few laps a few years ago. That's 3 different configurations including the ONE TIME use of the T8 chicane at the '92 Runoffs. It took me a number of years to finally grab this configuration and keep it through the end of the weekend at least . It was also very nice to have such a competitive FV field this weekend, even though it meant I didn't win either race. I spent several laps in 7th of 8 cars in the lead pack. The move through that pack to the front is what produced the record.

I watched the race from T10a/10b. For the first couple of laps Steven was in about 7-8th place, and the pack looked pretty even. I don't remember seeing any passing in the braking zone until a couple of laps later when Steven braked later/less and passed 3-4 cars! It was pretty impressive, no drama. Just did it as if he had bigger/better brakes and tires. But I'm sure the real reason is a combination of knowing the track and all the other things needed for a car/driver to be top notch.

The next lap he passed two more cars under braking and moved into 2nd. Fun to watch.

I once watch Steven fight a FA off going into 10A, pretty cool. Steven & I, along with a few others here in the SEDIV, are all about the same age and I have been watching him run with the lead pack and win national championships since I started racing back in 88'. He's always been an inspiration to me as a "True Racer": someone that designs, builds, maintains & drives his own masterpieces. Congrats for the track record! "Old Dogs Rule".

Great job Steven. And all thanks to your fabulous driving skills, Rollin Butler's engine expertise, the Silver Bullet body, and Roxanne Headers.

Saturday's race was one of the best I've seen in about 15 years. The last 5-6 laps you guys were 3 abreast almost every time down the back stretch. Just about every great Vee driver has spent time at Road Atlanta, and to have gone around it faster than anyone else IS a big deal! Congrats, Steve!

    Default Lap Records

Interesting to note that Stevan Davis now hold the lap records at Road Atlanta, Sebring, and Virginia (VIR) in his Racer's Wage Silver Bullet and Gary Blanarik has the lap record at Mid-Ohio in his Silver Bullet AR-1.

Runoff this year are at Daytona, the ultimate drafting track. Hmmmmm........

Gary's record was broke last year at Mid-Ohio.
