For Sale 1997 RF97 Van Diemen Formula Continental Package For Sale

Deal fell through, so the car is back up for sale

    Hello Apexspeed,

I have a RF97 Van Diemen Formula Continental package for sale Chassis #2299.

    Background/History:
This was Justin Pritchard's National car back in 97 and was race nationally up to 02 by several other drivers with the results of those races written in the log book. Then according to the log book, it was ran a season in the MARRS series and then sat at the end of 02. This car was then listed for sale on here in Summer 2013 as a package by a guy in Virginia (I have the name written down somewhere) that had no time for it and finally decided to sell it. John Newcomb in Alabama bought, kept a few things from the package and listed it for sale on Racing-Junk. I bought it from John Newcomb in the Fall of 2013 with plans to fully rebuild the car and run it regionally with the SCCA.

I completely rebuilt 90% of the car from the frame up with a few things left to do, and then moved to St. Petersburg, Florida to work with Cape Motorsports W/ Wayne Taylor Racing full time and now have no time or room to complete the car. So, I have decided to sell the car. The car and spares are currently being stored in Lancaster, PA in a climate controlled warehouse (as seen in picture 1) with the water drained out of the car. The logbook is currently in my hands in Florida along with all other paperwork and receipts.

    The car features:
-0 time freshly rebuilt pinto engine tuned and dynoed at 155hp and 155tq (was previously a national quicksilver motor before this rebuild)

-NEW, 0 time completely rebuilt uprights on all 4 corners

Rob, does it get any better than this?

    You like stiff suspensions anyway.

Anthony says I need this car. If I survive my trip to Bahrain and it's still here, I'll work it... and race in SEDIV. The FC fields can't be any worse than NEDIV.

    Sam,

My car is basically the same frame. You're welcome to come by and see if you fit.

Not likely. The notes I have say some 97 and some 98 frames are 2" narrower.....
    99+ are the same...

Many thanks, I thought as much. I barely fit in a 95 so the others will be the same.

Unfortunately if you barely fit into a RF95, then my RF97 will be a little to small for you. The 97 is 2" narrower in the shoulder area.

    Hope this helps,

I am 6'1 at 210-220 and fit nicely in a true 97. Getting the seat made right goes a LONG way with this car. When I bought it, I didn't fit. Had a seat made by a pro and then...I fit. It's all about the angles!

I wouldn't rule this car out because your your size.

I would. If you cannot fit in a 99+ then you will never fit in a 97, even without a seat. Because there is actually lots of knee room, the exception would be if you were extremely thin, but there is just no room for shoulders, arms, or belly. Bring your HNR for any fitting before buying.

My guess would be that you would fit in a 99+ with standard adjustments and a good seat. Most people will, certainly many larger than you.

I looked at this car the other car. It is as the seller describes. Very nice workmanship and attention to detail. Many spares, well sorted and marked clearly, all in great condition. It looks like it will be a very fast FC!

Thanks Jon, can't wait to pick this car up. Her new home will be in metro Detroit. This is my first venture into Formula car and am looking to get it sorted and on the track by next Spring.

I've reached out privately to some folks like 2BWise for advice on FC and different cars and have found everyone on ApexSpeed very helpful. Seems like a great community and I look forward to being part of it.

Thanks for the post Frog. Appreciate the kind words. First thing I'm doing is breaking the car down and replace the 18 year old fuel cell. From what I understand the RF97 design makes that task a whole lot of fun! (sarc)

Oops, no...I just moved to Michigan. Should probably update my profile. :/

Going to miss racing in SoCal but one of the nice things about moving out here was more formula car racing!

    Default Happy to have you!

Ever heard the saying "one for all and all for one"? Glc is kinda like that. How about this you actually get to vote (usually Feb) on the schedule before the year starts! Yes how different is that! Group tire deal and prizes/ certificates almost every race weekend. Soooo different from SCCA in a good way. We really don't care how slow or fast you are- just come. Awesome group.

    Awesome thanks everyone!

I've already reached out to Keith and gotten on the email list. One of my big reasons for taking the job out here was the amount of formula cars being raced as well as the level of competition. I enjoy strong competition on the track and strong camaraderie off it. Mostly I just want to push myself and my racecraft to the next level. I believe FC will do that.

For now, over the winter I'll be prepping the car. I'm sure I'll have questions...

    Cheers
