    Default Lap times????

As a lurker here on The F600 section of the forum, I have done a bunch of searching to find out just how fast these cars are? Not much info out there and figured that maybe a thread about how they compare to a F500, Club Ford, Formula Ford, Formula Continental and Formula Mazda might give some insight to others who are considering jumping into this class.

Anyone have lap times or results from Watkins Glen(long course), Lime Rock or Summit Point?

    Looking forward to the info.

Thanks in advance and everyone have a safe and Happy New Year,

    Dan

The fast cars are as quick as the best FF cars. Look at Runoffs qualifying times. Look at the results of the June Sprints and the Cat National. They are right there with the Best FF cars.

I had a similar question when first looking at F500/F600 so maybe you will find this of interest.

Attached are the qualification results for IndyCar at Mid-Ohio, race results for F600 at Mid-Ohio, and Club track records posted in 2013 for Mid-Ohio. It's not Watkins, but you can at least compare the cars on the same track.

The Indy car times were in the rain.

The mid0hio f600 times were on the short course (no chicane). Brian Novak holds the F5 lap record on the shorts course too at a 1:28.7?? As I remember set at the 2005 Runoffs.

The mid ohio lap records were on the club course (with chicane) and are about 2 seconds slower than the short course. The new FF record on the club cours is 1:30.3

IndyCar was thrown in there as a joke since it would be silly to compare seven and eight figure cars against F500/F600. Although rain just might be an appropriate handicap!

Just to make this thread more complete with numbers as Jnovak suggested, here are some from the qualifying 2014 Runoffs at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.

How was the weather for qualifying sessions out there?

The F600 Challenge series raced at Watkins Glen in 2013 on the long course. The top time for an F500 that weekend was a 2:02.8xx while the best F6 time of the weekend was a 2:03.6xx. Now of course that was before SCCA threw the F6 cars a smaller restrictor to slow them down a bit more.

Matt Strand has some great on board video on facebook of the top 3 (1 F5 and 2 F6s) swapping positions in the opening laps of that race before he had a radiator spring a leak.

    Check this out.

Now I know that the F6 cars are not as consistent as the FF cars but the speed is certainly there.

A couple more years of development is all that is needed.

At the risk of starting an argument, I really don't get comparing F600 to FF. They're two totally different cars. The fact that they have similar lap times is pretty meaningless in my opinion.

My wife is as hot as yours and I don't have to go to the concert and buy her expensive drinks because she likes drinking beer at the bowling alley. Sorry ...... my inferiority complex must be showing. Did I say nevermind. Please disregard these comments.

Of course the FF and the F600 cars are very different animals for certain. The question was simply asked: What is the comparative lap times?

This is the answer, the top F600 times are about as fast as a top FF. My posts were simply intended as an answer to the question and nothing more. My apologies if my posts came across as anything more.

I hope that I FINALLY get to race one this year. I have tested them but never raced one. I am excited and thrilled that these little beasts can be as fast as a real FF race car.

    Oh I understand. It's just a comparison that's made quite a lot that's all.
