    Default DB-3 '85 Air Filter

New owner of a DB-3 '85. My car came with a couple pieces of a foam type material in the air intake which are serving as the air filter. Is this what was used on this model DB-3 or is there a filter number or style that the cars originally came with?

Post a picture to confirm, but this sounds correct. Original swift part number is 540-001

Had this photo in files. Let me know if this works or if I need to shoot a better quality photo.

    Default Db3 air filter

Here is how I did mine it uses a standard K&N filter. I have the patterns if you like. I don't have a picture of it installed in the engine cover but I can send one if it helps.

This configuration looks very similar to what is in my DB-1. This DB-3 has more of a rectangular shape to it. Plan B was going to be to measure the hole and then find some kind of K&N filter that looked like it would work and then do what you did which is fabricate an aluminum plate and make it fit.

Some more pictures would be great. Thanks

    I like the K & N adapter !

My SE-3 came with some old Filtron sheet foam. I ended up purchasing Uni Air Filter foam and cut 2 pieces per the flat pattern attached, used Pliobond to glue them together and then tie wrapped to my intake collar.

The K & N idea is probably better.

I don't have a K&N part number yet. I am away from where my car is for the next couple weeks. So, I can't get exact measurements for a while. K&N has what they are calling Drag Racing Scoop filters that might be an option. Just depends on size.
I did some looking for the Swift Filter number that Mr. Coffin mentioned and came up with some products that are similar to the Filtron sheets that Mr. Coury mentioned.

Ten years ago I distinctly remember asking my dad if he was going to get a cooler looking air filter. Today he says this:

I'm counting it as a win.

By the way, what's your db3's serial number? Been trying to track a specific one down for a few years. Used to be owned by Jim Sloane then Tony Opheim. Was black in the last picture I found and I noticed yours was as well.

Marchsv-is it possible to get a copy of the patterns? And how to you treat the small hole at teh end of the filter cone-do you insert a tube and direct it out of the tail?

    Thanks
    Bob

Sometimes the hole is left open to let small rocks, dirt and other junk blow through. There also is a train of thought that the hole keeps the air from stalling for better air flow to number four cylinder.

    Default Frame and Serial Numbers

    To CCoffin:
Bear with me on this one... as mentioned earlier, I am out of town at the moment and asking my wife to locate the frame numbers. You will see in the attachment some info that I received from her. This is a CASC number 3660. Possibly more information to follow.
