    Default Runoffs Live Timing

Anyone know why RaceMonitor or the live timing link that is usually up, isn't up?

Or...where can a guy find the live timing?

    Default Runoffs Live Timing

I assumed there was no live timing because it is a test day.

You should have assumed I am in idiot and didn't realize it was only Monday. The days have all blended together the last few weeks.

F5/FF/FV/FE grouping I see did a total of 5 laps with most getting in 4 laps.

Hopefully they get more laps later on today.

I think today was like 300 for the 2 sessions. The 1000 was last weekend.

    Default Live timing sporadic

If you are going to have lime timing on the test day, have live timing on the test day. Based on current streaming capabilities, the costs involved to run the runoffs, and the fact that it is done through race monitor, I find it ridiculous that it only worked half the time today.

Maybe we need to pay more for the transponders to get reliable streaming of lap data.

It appears $400 isn't enough to satisfy the monopoly.

I find race monitor coverage to be incomplete and unreliable much of the time. I never know whether it's the fault of the tracks or race monitor.

There are a couple of areas that cause the most problems with RaceMonitor.

A slow network connection between the decoder reading computer and the node connecting through the internet to the RaceMonitor servers and a weak internet connection.

The computer reading the decoder needs to be up to minimum spec for the job and should be over capacity by a significant amount. Ethernet port needs to be checked. T&S network needs to be checked. In most cases it's a temporary network that suffers from bad connectivity and is handling a lot of retransmissons.

Few tracks have wired, high speed internet connectivity, relyiing instead on WiFi. As the amount of electromagnetic radiation increases (and T&S/Race Control are particularly dirty,) the same increase in retransmissions produces the same problem.

RaceMonitor itself isn't a problem. While we might like to think the Runoffs puts a load on them, they serve so many events simultaneously it's doubtful the Runoffs cause more than a blip on their bandwidth.

Race Monitor used to be great.....and free. Now I'm stuck having to subscribe just to follow the action from work. Such a pain.
