    WOW! That is a flashback for sure. The Targa Florio and the Mille Miglia were the Isle of Man TT's for sports cars back in the day.

    If you were a driver of any consequence (i.e. F1 or sports cars) you would be racing in the Targa and the Mille. Both took serious big ones. Biggest difference was in the Targa, the 40 plus mile track was open to public car traffic DURING the race where as during the Mille they made an effort to keep the track clear of public cars. It was easier in the Mille because it was run in stages.

    Actually the Mille Miglia is STILL run! Just not as a high speed competition but a tour of some of the best parts of Italy. This year, Jay Leno ran it.
