    Default SVRA Brickyard results ?

Anyone have a link to the weekends results from IMS ? The SVRA site has either not posted them yet or you need a secret code to access.....

Not posted yet. The only result sheet I have is for group 9 the race I was in. I could probably scan it for you later if interested.

Thanks Pop, I can wait for them to get it all posted.
How was the event from your perspective ?
    Certainly impressive entry.
Schedule looked all but impossible to pull off anywhere near to printed times.
Lots of potential for chaos but it seemed everyone with anything remotely eligible was star struck by the opportunity to be at the first IMS Vintage road course event.

I been racing 35yrs and I thought this was the most incredible event I have ever been in ! My opinion.
712 race cars ! Wow ! Just walking through the paddock was mind boggling. I saw race cars that I have only read about.
The schedule was tight , but they tried real hard to keep to it. With that many cars there were wrecks and a few oil downs to clean up. If someone in your group stuffed it then the session would be black flagged and cancelled. One of my sessions was only 2 laps. Disappointing, but necessary. Once everyone understood that then calmer heads prevailed. Mostly. My first practice session had 62 cars in. Very intense to say the least. My worst delay was 45mins due to an oil down. There were a few blown engines during the oval sessions, but ours went well. That to me was epic, it was sooooo much fun.
I heard SVRA signed a 3 yr contract for the event. It is definitly a must see !

The contract is five years, with this as the first one... The Speedway is ecstatic!

Mike, the results are available here: https://www.race-monitor.com/Results/Race/15603

Given that the Speedway has never held an event for more than 33 or 43 cars (plus support series), it was pretty amazing how well it worked. 3000+ drivers/crew/family alone!

The rain and lightning made Wednesday a little tough getting going, and the car counts on a course shorter than Road Atlanta and only slightly longer than Mid-Ohio or Laguna Seca made the speed disparities more obvious, but by Friday, when the schedule calmed down, it was great!

I ran a orientation program Wednesday with Stephan Gregoire, Ryan Lewis and Dan Clarke which went reasonably well, most of the folks near the top of their groups went through it, even Jim Pace came!

Problems came when people tried to go quick before they knew where the track went, but looking at the the incident log, there were fewer car to car and single car incidents proportionally than at other big events like the Mitty, September Glen and Monterey the last few years.

Great fields, nice weather after Wednesday and the venue, well, the venue was just incredible. I was totally blown away by the whole deal.

We had 23 Sports 2000 cars show up, I got pole in front of 1995 National Champion David Doran, then pussied out into T1, lap 1 and followed him home, but it was great racing! We had five guys in the 1:37's, one in the 1:36s. This was a little slower track due to T12, the Moto GP hairpin coming off the short chute not used by the Indy GP races.

    Pole lap here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ie7d5...=share&index=2

When we got a chance to run on the oval at speed, the track was damp down low, but it was AWESOME! You cannot see the cut-off point for T1 or T3 exiting T2 or T4. Unreal.

    Definitely a winner!

If IMS was happy with the SVRA, I would think a multi-year SCCA Runoffs contract would be a no-brainer. They should get rid of the slow moto-gp hairpin and use the Indycar GP layout.

Nice video Peter, great run in an old Tiga! Couldn't help notice how you shift your thumbs on the steering wheel. Without giving away any of your coaching techniques, is there something to gain as far as car feedback by doing so?

I know I'm getting off topic but. The fan turnout was impressive, I was told they sold more spectator tickets than the Indy Grand Prix did. Saturday I was strapped in my car ready to go out on the track and the spectator area around the grid and over Gasoline Alley was packed. Driving through the tunnel for Gasoline Alley just put a big grin on my face ! I just had to blip the throttle a few times. The whole paddock area was open to them also. I was letting the little kids and some big kids set in the car, met some real nice people.

BTW, SVRA fed all the entrants and their crew on Sat night. Over 2600 people ! And it went smoothly also. Then they had Grand Funk Railroad play for us and followed that up with a huge fireworks display. I had 2 young girls with me (grandaughter and her friend) and they loved it.

Yes, it was an incredible event. The cars were amazing and the facility was terrific. Don't know if they will do Runoffs as I don't think it compares to the vintage lineup. Just my opinion.

No tricks. Keeps me from squeezing the leather out from between my fingers! Lol!

Seriously, I try to treat the wheel like an egg instead of a neck I'm trying to strangle.

What I am trying to do is to lock the wheel so I can shift and drive with one hand, so I don't have the wheel slip out of it... I didn't notice until just now!

Plus, I'm a big boy. Not a lot of room down low! Hahaha!

I doubt this is a RunOffs candidate. The commercial arrangement for this event was novel and different, more collaborative. I don't think Club Racing's methodology would fit this place or the people that run it, IMHO. It was two YEARS to get them to do this, and the Pro-Am ingredient along with the historical aspect was the clincher.

Next year, the course will be changed, probably will integrate the old T5-T6 medium speed left hand loop and get rid of the "non-chicane" plus reverting to the Indy GP Turn 12 and the existing T13.

Agreed. Driving under the packed grandstand above Gasoline Alley and the spectators forty deep on either side headed out onto pit lane will stay with me for the rest of my life!

The Wolf Pack was pleased with the weekend and looks forward to returning next year. What a fantastic event and gathering of people both competing and spectating.

However, The Wolf Pack cares not for the opinions of those with Aluminium heads. (howling):

Hats off to tim gaffney, who really was wheeling that T-492 around. When I was alongside him on the pit straight, I can tell you he has a very strong motor! He had a great start and represented the old cars well. T492+, you should have been there!

Default Yes the SVRA Brickyard was great !

I went to Peters TOP at the Brickyard, and with the limited track time we got it proved to be a big help. Thank's Peter. I believe that Ryan Lewis won the vintage FF class in Group 2, Travis Engen in FB, and I had an angel on my shoulder all weekend and won the Club Ford class. Not sure who won in the FJ classes.

Here is a link to my race highlights. We were all lucky to get 60 some cars through turn one with a car spinning mid track
