    Default Spy Shot LRP

Spotted this week at Lime Rock.
Talk about vintage. This driver is way vintage.
But...other than that, it is a nice looking historic hot rod.

With the driver being vintage, and the car being historic, I guess this photo belongs in this section of Apexspeed.

Way cool. How much room in there for feet?

More details about the car please.

Looks like a Brabham BT-40 to me.
Always had a thing for that era FB's and SV's.

Here are a few more shots of Rand's Brabham. He told me it was a runoffs champion Atlantic from 73/74. Pretty cool car. He was on track with an old F1 car, not really sure if it was a Bennetton or a Tyrrel.

It can only be truly considered vintage when both the driver and car smell a bit musty and like mothballs.

Well, according to TJ, "He told me it was a runoffs champion Atlantic from 73/74. Pretty cool car.", so I'm guessing Cosworth BD, since iirc that was the dominant engine in FA at the time.

Stan, as usual, is spot on.
It is indeed the ex-Ken Duclos Brabham BT40 that won at Rd Atlanta in 1973 and 1974.
Standard issue 4 valve BD for 1974, we were still running twincams in 1973, Hewland FT200, 10" & 14" 13" diameter wheels, essentially same rims as continued until the 016's 15'ers.
I had my own BT40 and raced against this car in the day and beat Kenny as much as he beat me, glory daze indeed.
I'll tell you what though, the ensuing 40 years melted away in about 10 laps, like they never happened, absolutely in love with the car.
And as to foot room, my size 13's clodhoppers were no problem. Hell, I even completely forgot about the crappy knee, at least until I tried to get out.....
Talk about a personal time machine.......

Unfortunately those kinds of cars are not within my available racing budget. But I still enjoy watching them anyway.

I got rid of all the gorgeous women - just race cars now. Wait a minute - what website?

Inquiring minds want to know. Beautiful

Pedigree? - found in cardboard boxes on eastern end of Long Island - hence the name "Atlantic"

Lola T460 - one of the few never modified to T560- the narrow front end is great in traffic - just like a wedge - get the narrow end in and push

More pics available if anyone wants them.

More importantly for me that's an ex Alboreto Tyrell 001. A little bit of trivia - the last car to win an F1 race with a DVF engine. Detroit '83 I believe. I should probably get out more!

    Default Great Car

I know this car. Quite a few years ago, it was run out of the same shop that I was using.

It is good to see it racing again. I kept seeing it show up For Sale as it moved around the country.
