    Default help with car Identification

I've been looking at this car and would love to find out if anyone knows what it is?

    seller really doesn't know
he is led to believe it may be a Mistrale, but no evidence on that just one conversation with a racer who also didn't know

    not original motor or trans
    claimed to be a 1969 F3 car

no log book, no history, and no chassis plate
    aluminum side tanks

does anyone recognize it? or have any clues?
    thanks in advance everyone!

    Brandt,

Not sure, but check the cross brace that goes over the top of the gearbox. That will sometimes have a number beginning with the initials "AM" followed by some other numbers. If so, the frame was provided by Arch Motors in England who fabricated the frames for a number of English formula car builders. Someone there might be able to trace the numbers back to a specific brand/year/model.

Neat car. I'm sure someone will be along soon with something more.

The scoops above the nose look like a Crossle or a Merlyn of that time period, but I'm certainly no expert.

It looks a bit like an early Martini F3, although like most old cars it appears to have some frame modifications, like the upper cockpit bars.

the pick-up points for the rear shock/springs ON the upright are distinctive, that should be a clue

also the upper frame "rails" in the engine bay are particular (boxed not round)

the body looks quite massaged (i wouldn't even consider that in guessing its heritage)

ex-formula 3 might be a red herring.......does it have alloy calipers? ( illegal i know....)
heck somebody here SHOULD be able to tell from the shift linkage what marque it is/was

do us a favour and send nacked photos

Really rather unbelievable! It's a Beattie, how on earth did it end up there?

    Paperclip:

After reading my Steve Nickless (sp?) book on FF's, I thought the same thing except
the rear rollbar support was the opposite side and it didn't have nose cutouts in the
photo I have in the book.

it really looks like a beattie. This is the only photo I could find.

The cut outs look the same, as well as the indent leading up to the cockpit opening.

It doesn't look like the Beattie in the Nickless book because the car in the photograph in that book is a Bee Gee. Chris w52 has the correct photograph and that chassis was years ahead of its time with the bracing tubes at shoulder height etc. I have never seen one live (as it were) so to see one pop up is rather special. Should a deal not be made I would be interested in the car myself.

What's the decal on the side of the nose? It looks familiar to those seen on
a black Brabham running in the US vintage series.
