for non-spectator events, are non-driver, non-worker participants (e.g. guests and crew) required to pay for a weekend membership, or is it just for those people on course or in dangerous positions?

At most non-spectator events it is only the competitor that has to be member. Guests have to sign the waver tho.
I smell a story here. ???
For regions which allow a rider at an autocross, the rider also must be a member. A weekend membership is sufficient. Some regions waive the weekend membership fee for riders hoping they will become entrants.
no story. Just putting together a briefing for a bunch of military guys on doing an autocross on base, and that part of the rulebook was a bit fuzzy.
Thanks!
If you get volunteers to work, it might be a good idea to give them free weekend memberships. I think it makes a difference in insurance coverage for them.
For a non-spectator Solo everyone on site needs to sign the waiver. Spectator Solos are extremely rare.
yeah, part of my briefing had to cover the various definitions of entrant, competitor, driver, guest, spectator, etc, etc, etc.
the legal definitions are important!
