    I wonder if an e-ink display could be stuck to the car and just programmed for each event.. just to be different

    I'm sure it could... or for that matter for $40/ea you could buy two used Amazon Kindle's off eBay. The question is... would that be high enough contrast for real world usage? At 25' it's probably clear as day, but at 50'? What about with poor lighting conditions? You'd have to put them in zip-lock bags for rain.
