Default Old thread on why autox FF

Anyone know where that thread went(it may have even been in another forum). That was my inspiration for going FF. I saw it about 2.5 yrs ago. I wanted to share it w/ some other people.

That it is. Almost made me want to come out. I surely have the right car, but would really need to modify the setup. Maybe in a stock street car again someday, but the baby was made to race in packs.

And, frankly, I'm not good enough to pull out near-perfection on the second or third lap when things are happening that fast. I do like to get 10-20 good looks at each corner at speed, then a couple of hours to think about how to approach them the next session.

You guys have my full respect.

For me, autocrossing a FF will potentially be one of my premier options living in the Des Moines area. It's a very appealing possibility for me, and something I will be looking at more seriously over the next couple of years. That Vector in the Classifieds is looking more interesting, too.

Great thread. Someone should post all of that info here.

I think virtually everyone who is autocrossing a FF is full of respect for our Road Racing Bros! I know I am. Oh, and a whole bunch of envy too :-)

    Thanks!

The Vector is not legal for Solo. From Appendix A of the Solo rules:

    3. Only cars produced by the following manufacturers are eligible for FF in this class: ADF, Alexis, Caldwell, Citation, Crossle, Dulon, Eagle, Elden, Forsgrini, Gemini, Hawke, Konig-Heath, LeGrand, Lola, Lotus, March, Merlyn, Mondiale, PRS, Reynard, Royale, Swift, Tiga, Titan, Van Diemen, Winkleman and Zink.

Interesting that they would eliminate cars like that from the potential pool of CMs. Didn't know they did that kind of thing with the Solo rules. Good to know, even though it seems like CM would be an ideal place for ugly ducklings and oddities. Does it seem odd that they allow Swifts?

I believe the purpose of the rule is to prevent one off, purpose built Solo "Formula Fords".

I only posted part of the rule. There is also a list of approved S2000 manufacturers.

My understanding is that a real road racing FF like the Vector would be added to the list if someone writes to the Solo Board requesting the addition. As Lynn pointed out the purpose of the rule isn't to limit the eligible real FF's but only to exclude solo only "FF's".

Now that makes perfect sense! I had not thought about that.

That's always been a beef I've had with the GCR. The intent of rules like this isn't described. After someone explains that the rule makes perfect sense but until then as a newcomer you scratch your head and wonder why. I'm not saying every rule needs intent listed but perhaps ones with more gray area certainly do.

That must be an old list. Here is the 2013 list. Notice that Anson has been added. I know the person who got that included, so if anyone wants to know how to do it, let me know.

Getting the Vector on the list is cake...as has been pointed it out, it is fully within the spirit of CM.
