I know, I know, I'm petty and ridiculous, but the thing that stuck in my mind after watching that video was the folks cleaning up the tires with their bare hands in the beginning. Argh..

    :P

    Default Well...

There's something known as "Asking for it", and then there's this, which must come under the heading "Requesting it, pretty please w/ a cherry on top"

Maybe I should see a professional...I've been told by more than one person that something is wrong with my risk tolerance / adrenaline need.

    Absofrickenlutely.

Guaranteed it wasn't his first time up that hill.

Looks like a lot of fun. Unfortunately the wankers put those chicanes in the way.

You have to do it to understand why people run hills.

You need big ones to do this hill

I always liked the italian roads where it was so narrow and the turns so tight, with so much jungle on each side, that you had to honk the horn before going around the corner.

On my first trip to Italy for work I got separated from the rest of the guys on my project, landing in Venice long before they got there. all I knew was that I needed to get to Aviano, because that's where my hotel information was. The last time I was in a car in Europe I was 17....

So I picked up this Air Force dude who was waiting for a bus and offered to take him to Aviano for local driving instruction.

We get on the main road into the airport and he says:

"there are no yellow lines, so pay attention so you don't end up the wrong way" OK, although easier said than done in the center of many old cities.

As we get onto the autostrada he says:

"Speed limits are just a suggestion, double it and start from there"

About 45 minutes later we are on a two lane farm road north of Pordenone, like any midwest farm road, barely two lanes wide, with a deep ditch on each side and the usual roadside obstacles. We're going a bit over 80 (mph) I see some little econobox approaching, followed by a big Hino box truck. At about 100 yds off the Hino pulls out to pass! My passenger says "don't sweat it - get as far to the right as possible". I go right, the other guy goes right, and the truck goes up the middle. To that my passenger says:

    "NOW you're driving in Italy!"

Six weeks later when I picked up my relief at the Venice airport and they nearly **** themselves on the way to the hotel, I knew I was getting pretty native.....

I had a similar experience in Bulgaria, driving cross country from Sofia to Bourgas. Add in donkey carts and haywagons on the local roads. Not unusual for drivers to use whatever means necessary to pass.

200kph on divided highways, no shoulders, just armco and the occasional turnout. Everyone drinks the local beverage 'rakia'. Great fun.

MAN! I lived in Maine for 10 years and never realized there was a hill climb up Mt. Washington!! Those are really insane people as well as the European hill climbers.

I worked for RCA for many years and went up Mt. Washington on occasion to the TV and radio transmitter sites. NOT a real sweat trip even at 'normal' driving speed for mountain roads.

You gotta realize that is one BAD mountain and it's only about 6,100 feet high.. Highest 'ground' wind speed ever recorded on the earth. 231 MPH LOL try to stand up in that! And they get 281 inches of snow a year. Worst recorded weather in the earth. That's why the TV and radio crews are up there all winter with almost no way off the mountain top.

You know things are bad when you have to CHAIN your building to the ground!!
