Default SCCA Board of Directors Approves Changes to Formula 500

Topeka, Kansas - October 12, 2013 – The Sports Car Club of America Board of Directors approved recommendations from the Club Racing Board (CRB) on Saturday that impacts the Formula 500 class.

Beginning in 2014, specified water-cooled, four cylinder, four-cycle motorcycle engines up to 600cc will be permitted in the Formula 500 class. The General Competition Rulebook (GCR) will outline a set of rules to control the power level of four cycle engines to yield approximately the same on track performance of the current two strokes engines.

"The CRB has recommended, and the Board agrees, that there is potential to grow the Formula 500 class with these changes," Lisa Noble, SCCA Chairman of the Board, said. "It’s very important to us that this not become an open class for 600cc engines, but that the new motors be introduced in a way that gives both the four-cycle and the two-cycle engines a chance to be competitive. Only engines as permitted by the spec line in the GCR will be allowed in the class."

Further details on the spec lines for Formula 500 will be available in the November Fastrack® News, available on SCCA.com October 20. More information on the SCCA is available at www.SCCA.com.

Keith, I can't tell from your post if you think this is good or bad.

    Default Merge

I expected them to approve the merge.
Only time will tell if SCCA has made a move that is good for the masses (not just the few) and something that might increase local participation (which is always an issue for Regions) with new or existing members.
