Default ARRC Rollcall, Road A(tlanta) 11/1/13

    Who's planning on coming down?

The ARRC is F1000's spiritual successor to the Runoffs.

In the first edition in '07 http://www.apexspeed.com/forums/show...ight=ARRC+2007 , The Piper ruled, w/ Justin Pritchard smoking the field.

In '08 The Piper again http://www.apexspeed.com/forums/show...ight=ARRC+2007 but not without some hounding by me in the Nova-Dieman

ARRC '09 was won by Coello in the brand new RFR, w/ a massive scrap going on for 2nd, which has been captured on some grainy vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yPTBLc36F_c (6:35, 7:35, and 8:35 have some cool passing!)

By this time FB was Runoffs eligible, so the allure of the ARRC sort of waned a scosh.

For those of us whose Runoffs didn't go so swell, The ARRC is pretty much the last chance to have a good result/race/time for the year.

It's always a memorable event (even the one year we had about 30 seconds of pea sized hail!), so if you're on the fence, please bring it on and us locals promise to throw some heapin' helpin's of hospitality on ya!

What's this, no Atlantics cherry picking FS this year? Still time to slip one in there.
Would like to see some interesting one-offs.

Victor Seaber's Viper FM should be pretty interesting. IIRC, it's got a pretty peppy rotory (and dynamic aero?).

I'll be there in group #4. That's right after the Wings & Things group, so I'll probably miss a lot of the FB/FS/etc. action. :-(.

Richard Cottrill is running an Astra! - Long time since I have seen his name on an entrants list. Not on JP Master list of Drivers either

Had no idea Richard drove.....I guess he needs to go on the master list of degenerate FB drivers......
See JR is on the list I guess yesterday's test went well. 8 cars at the ARRC and counting.

Richard seems to come out of retirement every couple of years. He's actually a decent driver, he was getting around Miller ok last time I ran against him. He was driving a Speads that weekend.

Unloaded the car at 630 yesterday morning and it was back in the trailer by 1400. The #4 rod decided to take a peak outside the block. Haven't performed forensic investigation yet. New motor was said to have 468 miles and definitely looked the part. I added 4 more before it blew at s/f of the first hot lap of my first practice session. Aim says I had 65psi oil at time of detonation. Everything looked and felt good. I know I said I had a fresh bullet in the chamber, but I had no idea it was actually a grenade.

Lesson learned: eBay engines should go to a professional before installing, regardless of mileage.

It was fun while it lasted. Good luck to everyone!

Sorry to hear about the engine. That's racing and why a person needs deep pockets for the sport.

Any results from todays Qualifing for FB this morning?

I figure race should be about 9:40 AM EST tomorrow (Saturday).

I cannot see that there is any live timing that I know of.

The morning Q1 session was in rain, and only 5 cars (in the whole group) went out. I think none were FB's.

The afternoon Q2 session was great weather, but very short - maybe 2 hot laps. A Swift 016 FA went into the T1 wall and they threw the checker before sending the group back out. Surprising because the incident was cleared pretty quickly.

Two pretty lousy opportunities to form an accurate grid, so the race might be (extra) exciting.

    Default Back to my roots

It's been 20 years since I called a race from the tower at Road Atlanta, but I'm officially out of retirement - Gonna see if I can correct a "few inaccuracies" from the Runoffs broadcast :O)

The weather has just been barely short of stunning, w/ the exception being the wet track yesterday that effectively washed out the Q1 session.

Q2 was perfect weather-wise, but unfortunately not very long, with perhaps enough time for a lap and a half to get a time in, before a black flag came out for an FA crashed pretty heavily, and into the tire wall at the top of T1.

Watching from T1 during the Thursday test day I was blown away by Gerrardo in the JDR steaming through there - I was under the impression that he had never run here.
I found out post-session that he had run an F2000 Championship race here a year or two ago - Phew! Now it makes sense...

JR's Suzuki is having running issues, but hopefully a change of components out of the Trick or Treat bag I brought up with me will set things right. Sat morning warm up went better, but still not 100% - Ted, JR and Greg Moon were looking into stuff just now.

The rest of the FB guys are ragin' along, but off the pace of Jose and JR.
With fresh skins mounted up and the primo weather this morning my guess is the FB lap record will be heading west today. Whether it goes to Texas, or Colorado is up in the air...

I have known Jose Gerardo and raced with him for many years. He is one aggressive driver and has absolutley NO FEAR on the track.

What a combination, Gerardo in a JDR racing machine.

My prediction stands as posted before...Gerardo 1st Place.

That was the lap record. A 1:20.1 was the fastest timed lap. Three laps in the 19's is pretty impressive.

    Good job JR.

    Default good job JR!

Goog job JR! Lawrence and I were discussing how low the lap record could go. He said 19's were definately possible.

Jose was in the runoffs winning car. He was renting it for the weekend. He was doing well in practice.....getting used to the car....and getting the car adjusted for him. Unfortunately, there was an issue with the car that slowed him during the race. I guess it was our time to have car issues (ran the whole season without any). JR has had to many for sure. Hopefully we can have some head to head battles next year when neither car has issues.

It was difficult not being there.....

I buddy of mine mentioned he was able to record the track audio over the tracks FM signal, so maybe we'll soon have a link to post up for the on track action...
