    Default Wiring Question

I recently had to redo some wiring and something obviously didn't go back exactly as planned. To shut the car off, I have to use the master switch and not the dash switch.

But it does require that the fuel and dash switch be on to start it. I've looked for wiring diagrams but cannot find anything.

    Anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks,

    Jonathan

I don't know of any wiring diagram that exists for these cars. The stock wiring was pretty straightforward: everything ran through a multi-pin connector just behind the interior sheet metal aft of the forward roll hoop on the left side. Unless you have a data system there's not much wiring in these things.

    What exactly did you replace?

    Hi Sam,

Thanks for the reply. I went through the entire wiring system to look for cracks, bad connectors, etc. So I had the entire wireloom from the dash to the engine. I have a Pi2 data system, so I'm really using the multi-pin much.

Sounds like you have the wires on the back of the ignition switch connected improperly. It's likely there are more than one wire on the switch terminals. You probably have some that are connected to the "hot" side (ie, controlled by the master switch) that should be on the other side of the ignition switch. So... what is connected to that switch, and where to those wires lead?

I found an odd thing on the coil. If you pulled that wiring apart there is an insulating board that is tied to one of the terminals. there were spade terminals mounted there, but if you connect wrong it could create some issues. Mine was with start up not shut down.

Pull the small wire off the back of the alternator and see if your car shuts off with the dash switch. If it does then the diode pack is no good. You can either replace the alternator or place a diode in the small wire...Moses probably has both

    Default Back of Alternator

So I pulled the wired of the back of the alternator and it does allow me to turn the engine off. Nice help. What I didn't notice is that when you put it all back together, there's actually two terminals in the area where the "slip" connector went.

For kicks, I switched it to the other and blammo, works just fine.

Thanks again for all the help!

I forgot about that one, even though it's bitten me twice.
