    Default Laguna Lap Data

    Does anyone have any FV RPM data they are willing to share from Laguna? In a perfect world I could get a decent lap using CDS data so I can import it.

    I am mainly looking for an RPM trace and/or a RPM histogram.

    Get ready to dial back the cam. Our data from the track is long gone, but I have a good recall. 5900 into turn 2, end of front straight which is 60% up hill to start then ending downhill. With the kink in the middle of the straight it is impossible to pass if you get out of the last turn correctly. Most of the track low 5k range in 4th gear. 6-7 to the corkscrew uphill 4th @ 52-5400. Good passing opportunity if you develop good low end. We always had a special engine/exhaust for the place. Short rear tires are a possibility. A tall 1:22 third gear does not reduce the time you are lugging around in fourth and is a big detriment in turn 11 onto the front straight.

    I'd take head/mani/carb combination that gave the most area under the curve from 5000-6500 and mate it to a 1.26 shortbox.

    I'm thinking the extra acceleration available out of the slow 3rd gear corners would be worth the tradeoff of an additional 200 rpm drop in the 3-4th shift. Especially if those 3-4th shifts are happening in downhill sections....and I'd rather be in front at the S/F line even if I got passed right after it everytime.

    Has everybody seen this?

    I would say you use third three times per lap. Out of 11, 3 and 8A. 8A is extremely downhill and maybe a short shift. The other two 3rd applications are normal. It would seem that the most time is spent at 50-5200 range in 4th. I am not sure how the science of gear selection would work when trying to factor in the 3rd gear usage.

    If you lead into 11, do the turn correctly, it is pretty hard to lose the race. The run to the flag is uphill and short.

    My science, in this application, is rather soft. It's more about racecraft. I want the 3%+ better acceleration because of the mechanical advantage of the lower gear and the little tiny bit higher rpm at the same speed. Out of T11, the leader on the last lap is (a) either going to be all by themselves or (b) not get the corner right. If someone is very close going into T11 they can take away the proper apex, screw both of their corner exit speeds and the drag race is on...or the leader is going to have to take a defensive line and lose much needed momentum for the ensuing drag race.

    I just returned last night from the runoffs followed by a convention in Vegas so I am way behind. I know many have requested the Laguna data files. I will get it out hopefully this evening.
