INDE Labor Day
Well of course we had fun. Only seven cars in the Yellow group, but all were EFFs. While most participants ran the "Corvette Configuration" which bypasses the dive in and out of the gulley after the sweeper, we were allowed after the first session to take the more interesting path.
John Marek is getting quick enough to almost keep up with Jim Edmunds, and was therefore awarded the first place trophy when Jim decided to play instructor and cameraman in the final race, dropping back to follow each of us for a time. I knew to ignore the blue flags when Jim was behind me because he'd been doing about 50MPH down the main straight! We all look forward to seeing his video.
Ken, Jarred, and I all ran within a couple of tenths of each other all weekend long. The timesheets show I pretty consistently had the quickest laps and the worst finishing position because I still haven't the courage (after my last visit to the track and close encounter with cactus) not to brake at the end of the straight into the sweeper. Greg Long made progress in the little time he was able to spend with us. Mike, Ken's oldest son, in his first try at a Formula Ford, cautiously explored the possibilities of two very different cars and of course declared the old Zink a much more comfortable drive.
For those who haven't heard, the schedule for the rest of the year has changed due to planned repaving of the Wild Horse drag strip in October. There will be a farewell to the Main track Saturday, Sept. 28, and Mondo/Bondo on Sunday. Several new drivers are expected and it should be a great time.
