    Default What's up, Nationals?

Nationals is just over 2 wks away. Someone must have something to post. Since this is my first N, I will stir the pot. I have 2 events this wkend and then next wkend the marathon drive to Lincoln, Google says 1 day and 1 hr. I am planning on a drive through with a couple of naps to arrive Sun afternoon. If this works, I will be very happy As I said before, I have an ava bed at the Extended stay motel for the whole week. Help me out here.
    See you all there.

To anyone who hasn't been to Nationals at Lincoln: Be sure to bring course walking shoes that you can throw away (or save for next time). They WILL pick up lots of OPR. Of course, the tires will also but they are more practical to clean.

    What?!! Bummer.

I'm showing up Sunday night, taking all the SAC related body blows at the Town Hall on Monday and then driving a Mustang Shelby GT (car I used to own) in FS on Tues/Wed...then watch Thurs, before flying home. Should be (some) fun

    Thanks!

I got out of the habit/addiction when "life changed" financially in 2002. Returned in 2012 after I retired to check out Lincoln. Hoped to have gotten back some of the "speed" I used to have this year but didn't find it so the experience isn't worth the drive, etc. this year. Maybe in the future.

    Dick

P.S. I'm going to an EVO TnT this weekend to try to find some of the speed and/or just have a lot of runs on a nice day. I'll be "glued" to the computer during CM's runs at Lincoln!!!

    Dick,

When driving the evo, the biggest thing people have a hard time with is timing your boost to the apex of the corner, not the throttle. It will take a run or two to get a feel for the turbo lag, but once you get it the car will be an absolute blast to drive. I autocrossed my '03 evo for many years and I do kind of miss that driving experience.

The evo loves a smooth driver. The smoother you inputs, the faster you will go. Enjoy!

    ah, that kind of evo

If you ever get the chance to drive the car variety, it's a blast. Almost as much fun as the Formula ford.

I'll keep that in mind while in the meantime settling for the no lag torque of my 5.0 Mustang

Speaking of OPR.... Just in case someone hasn't mentioned this before, the tools that are great for removing it are things like this:

    http://www.harborfreight.com/12-volt...ool-68012.html

Use the scraper blades (not saw blades).

    Mark,

I am no AIM dash expert, but I have learned to work with it. I'll be paddocked in the back with all the Texas folks. I'd be happy to share what I know.

    Dick,

I am slower than a sundial in a monsoon, but I'm going anyway.

    Mike,

I am writing up FS for Sportscar. See you in grid!

    Barry,

Thanks for the reminder, now off to HF to get one of those thangs.

    Mark,

Last year (2012), I hosted a "CM Welcome Party" on Sun. We had really good attendance as most were already on site as CM ran Tue/Wed.

I had not planned on hosting this year as CM runs Thr/Fri and a good number will not be arriving until Tue.

All that said, I welcome everyone to stop on by paddock spot (R8C27) any evening for a or three. I arrive in Lincoln on Sun...

    Safe travels to all,

    Default Recap...

2013 Nationals : Yet again, a very enjoyable week at “Camp Concrete”. You absolutely go for the competition but once you return home and start sharing the stories (and there are many) you quickly realize the week is about the people.

As for the competition, congrats to Nick Myers for taking the win with the DB1. Special thanks to Peter Calhoun / Calhoun Motorsports for the help over the years as I could not done it without you. Already looking forward to next season!

My first, but not last Great fun dispite the longggg drive to and from. My co driver, David O'Maley, did very well for his first time out in CM, and proved that my car is up to the task I would not be surprise if he shows up next year with his own FF.
Each big event like this, I get faster, but so, it seems, does everybody else Must try harder. Thanks to all the help from Mark and Ed. I did have some minor mechanical issues.
I heard about the OPR problem, but was not prepared for just how bad it was. Next year I will need at least 2 more batteries for my cleaner and I have an expensive solution I may surprise you all with.
I forgot my extra weight in the car(me, 25 lb lighter than co driver) on day 2 and came in at 1102 lb Got a cheer from the scale crew.
    Here are the results. http://scca.cdn.racersites.com/prod/...0Nationals.pdf
If anyone has a link to Ustream of CM, please pass it along.
I have 750+ pix from the event, but it will take awhile to process them.
Good thing I have another event this coming wkend and the one after that, too!

Six sets of tires? I suppose with a co-driver that would be 12 sets.

Don Elzinga solved the battery problem by coming to grid with a 1000w generator and a wired tool! Now that's "an expensive solution" but it worked well!

As usual Nationals is about more than just competing. I very much enjoyed meeting everyone in CM and look forward to seeing you all next year! I am worn out, but very, very happy. I promise to drive better next year...but then so does everyone!

I also enjoyed meeting everyone. You all are very good soloist and I hope to do better next year, Lord willing. Wish I could have been at the banquet but I had to go see my Grand-daughter march at her very first football game. Have a safe Fall and Winter and hope to see all of you at the next Nationals. Default Another great year!

What a great bunch of guys and a great bunch of cars!!! Sometimes I wish I could just watch the competition, but I wouldn't miss running with everyone! Absolutely magic to watch Nick win his first championship, Brandon is the epitome of a class act, Pru is such a great guy and a tremendous ambassador for our class, Doug Wiley is an awesome addition to our class, David is the best co-driver, Always great to see the Clements (and meet Jon), A real pleasure to meet the Vee guys, and on and on.

For OPR, we had two Milwaukee multi-tools with 5 batteries. Worked fine, not too expensive.... I'm wondering about R35s, dunno how much is Other People's Rubber and how much is our Own Personal Rubber?????

    Can't wait for next year!!

    Barry,

As I noted when we were talking about tires, I purchased a used set of R35A's to test this year but never mounted them so the question of running this slightly harder compound will have to wait until next year...

Speaking of tires, it will be interesting to see how the new FF Avon (now available via Roger Kraus) works out...

    Take care,

I have some A35s, for when I finally get my car out to a track. I don't have an extra set of rims to mount them on for a test. I doubt they will be an improvement. I forgot to check, did anyone water down their tires to cool them?

You can try to make a street car into an autocrosser or you can do a lot less work and make a race car into a great autocrosser
