Good tip, my e-mail wasn't in The WTB post. "David Hill" could have searched and found my email in a year old for sale post (now edited out) or he has snuck past the gatekeeper...

That he did... I found his account and have since banned him and reported his e-mail address as an international spam account.

Here's one more for the list... a guy going by the name of John Morgan (john.morgan180@yahoo.com) is trying to buy items from ApexSpeed members for more than the asking price, to "give you a little extra for your efforts" for shipping to him overseas. Sending anything to anyone like this is paramount to lighting your money on fire. Don't do it! He's not a forum member, and I guarantee your "check" will be a fake.

This is in reference to a wanted add for midyear rear uprights:

    Hello Buddy,

I am emailing with respect to your advert. Please let me know if you are still in need of the above and I'll get back to you. What's your phone #?

    Kind regards,

    Frank B Flores
    Flores Spares Outlet

    USA

I googled Flores Spares Outlet, and the 'fraud' hits just kept on coming. It was then my intention to put a bug so far up his ass that he wouldn't know whether to s**t or wind his watch with a potential fraud sale. I emailed him back asking for photos, and that I preferred PayPal over other choices, but intimated Western Union was acceptable (NOT). He replied with this:

    Hello Rick;

Thanks for writing. I have a PayPal account, but mine is linked to my wife's bank account and she's currently on vacation, otherwise PayPal is usually my preference. But you have no problems at all payment through Western Union or Moneygram . They have an outlet close to me and once payment is confirmed, I'll complete shipping and email you a tracking number. I also got a hold of your complete shipping address and it has been noted down for shipment, kindly confirm below:

    Rick Iverson
    xxx xxxxx xxxx
    East Gull Lake MN 56401
    (xxx) xxx-xxxx

Once I get a confirmation of your shipping address, I'll email you my payment information for payment.

    Many thanks again and regards,

    Flores

I do not know where these clowns get their idea of common sense, up their butts I'll bet.

Thanks, he'll be escorted to the door.

We're getting to the point where we will stop allowing new registrations from the UK if this goes on much longer.

Got an e mail from the same guy who has 3 longacre scale heads available for 250 pounds each delivered to my door.

Thought he sounded a bit suspicious since he took several days to send me pics and then sent another e mail pressing me to make a purchase.

I tired Craigs list for about a month....did not have one legit sale but got hit daily with the scams, so I started using the below address and a few helpful hints and well the idiots sent a number of checks to them. That scam is where they buy your item for 1 or 2K above the selling price of 100 dollars then you deposit the check and send them back money....then of course your bank nails you because the check is bad, what could possibly go wrong with that scam....I had to get a little creative for a name that ties into FBI

    Default Another scam alert

Add another name to the scam alert list.
David Dione, ddione434@gmail.com from the UK just sent me an e-mail in response to my search for an oil tank. The e-mail was very generic without even mentioning what I was looking for and I could not find him as an Apex member. Thinging it was just a fishing trip so in the trash it went.

    Default Patrick Watson Scammer

I too got an email from Patrick Watson regarding a WTB 10:31 ring and pinion for a LD200. He said his pay pal account was down and he could take moneygram. Then he sent me a pic of a ring and pinion and it was black. Now maybe it starts off black but the best part was that he said " I wiped it down with some kind of oil to keep it from rusting" That's the best....."some kind of oil".......Baby oil? Canola?

He then wanted a premium price of 200 GBP for it......that's a hell of a deal.....at about a fifth of the price...

    Beware

    Default Patrick watson strikes again

I, too, recently got an e-mail from "Patrick Watson" in England wanting to sell me a complete gear set for my LD200. In the photos I counted 23 sets and given the average price of $175.00 for a used gearset, that would mean his collection was worth $4025.00.....and he was offering it to me for $1,000.00! Can you say "suspicious"? Sure, I knew you could...lol...
This guy actually answered a question I posed to him/her/it/whatever.

If you post his e-mail address, it not only will turn up in future Google searches, but I can cross-reference it to see if he actually snuck a forum account by me and is a member here.

Nope, not a forum member. Which means if he responded to a Want-Ad from you guys, you had your e-mail in the listings. Always safer to have people contact you through PMs than e-mail, if possible. We do our best to keep away the scammers and spammers, and your odds are less of having a problem through the forums. Not perfect, but better odds.

    Default Patrick Watson <pat963465@gmail.com> again

Patrick Watson <pat963465@gmail.com> emailed me about a want-ad I had posted on Apex Speed. He did not seem knowledgeable, just enthusiastic about getting money from me. This is the second time I have been contacted about a want-ad. Some months ago this happened, but the name was different, Eric Chapman or something like that. Anyway, he also said he was from the UK. As this is the second time someone has tried to steal from me, I knew I should say something. Apparently the racing community is large enough to have our own sleaze bags. That may not be new to many, but it is disappointing.

These guys are probably not members of any racing community, but rather sleaze bags trying to separate us from our money by trolling the internet for want ads. The guy who wanted to sell me a scale head had two different ones that were not even real Longacre model numbers. Or so he said.

I got a reply from a Patrick Watson to my WTB ad - seemed sketchy when he asked for my phone# and he's in the UK. He didn't say that he had the air horns I was looking for, but he could "help me with my Wanted Ad".

    This.

A lot of these guys will pop up on other car/enthusiast boards with the same offers. If you go back and look at some of the early red flags in this thread, those guys were found on BMW, Porsche and other car boards with the same scam.

Many of the hits that have actually come from registered forum users supposedly were in the UK, but their IPs pointed to locations in Africa or elsewhere. Anyone not registered used e-mails that could be picked off of the forums without having to be a registered member.

We do as much as we can to keep the trouble to a minimum, but they do manage to still strike if given the opportunity.

    Default another scammer

i have a persistent one......this is my last communication to him.

wow! you're an especially hard headed one! i've already said i think you're a scammer and you keep on hitting away at it. consequently, due to your lack of intelligence, i have decided to double my price to 16400 dollars. i will not take paypal, euros, or american dollars. your agent can bring me gold bullion. it will be somewhere around 12.8 ounces...but since you're pretty dim and can't figure out that I know you're a scammer....let's call it an even 13 ounces. in lieu of gold, I will accept a comparable amount in certified moon rocks.

Hmmmm. Country Code 44 is United Kingdom & Isle of Man. The grammar is odd.... I'd call from a blocked phone & check it out. My guess is scammer... however, worth a phone call... if it seems legit, I'd call the local constables for some feedback. ..
