HUGE Props to Mike Devins of HRP who made my podium at June Sprints possible after I had a "Wardrobe Malfunction", resulting in the high speed rejection (JUST like High School!) of my damper cover, winglets, front end fences/shoes/ and wing end spars, as well as damage to the leading edge of my front wing main plane.
Within minutes of pulling in after the aborted session, Mike shows up in his golfcart w/ his magic crate of resins and whatnot. Over the next couple of hours he transforms what had previously been a yard sale on the exit of T1, into better, lighter, more functional bodywork. I didn't even have to ask him, he just jumped in. Both feet.
Had he not been there I would have had to take a trip to the Fleet Farm in Plymouth, purchased a fiberglass repair kit, gone back to the track and immediately have to go back to the Fleet Farm for an assortment of sandpaper, return to the track, attempt to mix up Bondo but get the ratio horribly wrong, get resin and cut mat all over gloves, shirt, pants and hair, attempt to pull gloves off with teeth... you get the picture.
Mike worked into the darkness, and we finished up by flashlight.
The June Sprints - It's Not Just Another Race, it's time spent with some of your best friends you have the fortune of seeing perhaps once, or twice a year if you're real lucky!
