Congratulations to Lawrence Loshak for some very impressive racing this year with a new F1000 constructor and winning the F1000 East Championship Series.

Loshak's dedication and consistency really paid off. It was a tight battle with Glenn Cooper to take the title.

Racing is racing and anything can happen to cars and drivers from one event to another.

Loshak proved that he can drive and drive hard. He has been a consisitent leader on the track.

The East F1000 Championship Series was a blast to follow and the organizer(s) need to be thanked for putting on such a fine series, and of course to the sponsors who made the awards possible. After such a disasterous year in 2012, 2013 was a 1000% turn around for the driver/owners of F1000. It was a great series, co-ordinated with SCCA events that made things like live timing available for so many to follow. The F1000 website was well organized and updated to keep all interested parties up to date.

All of the F1000 driver/owners need to be recoginized for their dedication to the class and great car counts for the East Series. While the West Series had much lower car counts, The East Series really made for "competitive" racing events.

Now that the F1000 East Series has ended, and the West has a 2 more races remaining (August 2013) to crown their Champion, perhaps we will see a real showdown when "East meets West" drivers at the SCCA National Championships in September.

I am sure that the SCCA Nationals will provide real "competitive" racing and certainly will be exciting to watch the duel between the top drivers in the F1000 (FB) class. It should be a real battle to crown the top driver in F1000.

If 2013 was any indication of the future for the F1000 class, 2014 should be even more fun and exciting to watch.

Big Kudo's go out to Mike Beauchamp (East) and Thomas Copeland (West) and any other people (workers), for their dedication to the F1000 Class and the vast amount of time that they have dedicated without any compensation for their work efforts. There are always leaders in any company of organization, and it was so great to see these two individuals and others who step up and take control of the Championship Series.

Can't wait to see the SCCA National Championships, and the question remains, excitement builds.....

"Who will be the SCCA National Champion for F1000 Class (FB)".

Stay tuned, the F1000 racing season is not over yet.

Don't forget Nicholas Belling. He has attended almost every single round of both East & West Championships and has supplied much of the material for Twitter, Facebook, and the series website. He works his @ss off during a race weekend and puts a lot of work into the series between weekends.

I think we all agree the RFR isn't the best package, and Glenn decided to take the risk of trying the Kawasaki engine mid-year (I assume to improve on top end speed). Then, after all that, towing to The Glen and two DNF's, well, that seems like unjust punishment.

That's racing. We all know there are a lot of disappointments in racing.
Don't forget that Glenn still has a shot at the overall US Formula 1000 Championship! There are double points available at the Runoffs so anything can happen.

The three of us are working on making this year's finale one for the history books. Think COTA but with more green flag laps, and more cars on the grid. Plus, there won't be any other classes to mess up anybody's race. We hope everyone can make it!

    Default Nicholas Belling

I 2nd Mike D.'s comments. Yes, he worked tirelessly at the Sprints, AND also at the May Road Atlanta event as well

Here's the race report for Watkins Glen, written by someone that wasn't actually there so feel free to pick it apart and add your own version of what actually happened.

Lawrence Loshak Wins the 2013 US Formula 1000 Championship East!

For the final two round of the US Formula 1000 Championship East presented by Hoosier Racing Tires, Sunoco Race Fuels, George Dean Racing Engines, Jongbloed Racing Wheels, Hyperco, LS Motorsports, Geartronics, and Neo Sport Camera, the series moved to Watkins Glen International and almost all of the contenders followed. Because each driver scores his best eight finishes, the championship could come down to the last race. Glenn Cooper had a strong lead going into Watkins Glen by virtue of finishing every series event and winning both rounds at Virginia International Raceway. However, Lawrence Loshak was coming on strong after winning both Road Atlanta rounds and round 7 at Road America. Alex Mayer, Nicho Vardis, and Richard Franklin followed and were ready to take advantage if Cooper or Loshak ran into trouble. Nicholas Ortiz was in the hunt but was unable to attend Watkins Glen because of a New York law that prevents minors from participating in auto races.

    Saturday’s Race
In qualifying for round 9, Loshak made it clear he wasn’t going to make it easy for Cooper, winning the pole with a lap of 1:48.847, just shy of the track record of 1:48.669. He was joined on the front row by the owner of that track record, Jeremy Hill. Cooper qualified 3rd but within striking distance.
Unfortunately, when the green flag flew, Cooper was not on the grid. Loshak jumped out to an early lead but Hill got shuffled down the order in chaotic race start, allowing Jason Slahor, Alex Mayer, and Nicho Vardis to get by. After a couple full course yellows caused by cars in other classes, the race ran green for the remainder, allowing Hill to claw his way back to second. On the second to last lap, Hill was able to get around Loshak who then spun on the last turn and slid all the way back to fourth, handing the easy win to Hill.

    Full results-Race 9:
    1. Jeremy Hill
    2. Jason Slahor
    3. Alex Mayer
    4. Lawrence Loshak
    5. Nicho Vardis
    6. Jason Bell
    7. Richard Franklin
    8. Anthony Autiello
    DNS Glenn Cooper
    DNS Tyler Thielmann
    DNS Charles Livingston

Fastest race lap: Jeremy Hill- 1:50.174

    Prize Payout-Race 9:
1st Place – Jeremy Hill - 4 Hoosier Tires, 1 pair Hyperco Springs, $100 Jongbloed Certificate, $750 Geartronics certificate
2nd Place – Jason Slahor - 2 Hoosier Tires, $50 Hyperco Certificate, $500 Geartronics certificate
3rd Place – Alex Mayer - 1 Hoosier Tire, $25 Hyperco Certificate, $75 Jongbloed Certificate, $250 Geartronics certificate
    5th Place – Nicho Vardis - $50 Jongbloed Certificate

    Pole – Lawrence Loshak (1:48.847) - 1 Hoosier tire
Random drawing – Charles Livingston- 1 Hoosier tire, Glen Cooper– 1 Hoosier tire
Sunoco Hard Charger Award – Jason Slahor - $150.00 cash (moved up 2 positions)

    Sunday’s Race
Qualifying for round 10 was an even stronger statement by Loshak. He eclipsed Hill’s track record and secured the pole with a lap of 1:48.172. He was again joined on the front row by Hill. The final grid was determined by the qualifying session OR each driver’s fast lap in Saturday’s race. Because Cooper didn’t run on Saturday, he slid down the grid to 5th, allowing Slahor to take the 3rd spot and Mayer the 4th spot.
At the green flag, Cooper got a stellar start and slotted into third behind Hill, relegating Slahor and Mayer to 4th and 5th. However, Cooper’s race would end on lap 4 along with his title hopes. As soon as the race reached the halfway point, Loshak, who was still leading Hill, had clinched the Championship. He didn’t back off and continued to hold off Hill as the two swapped fastest race laps. On lap 10, Hill suffered a puncture and was forced to pit lane, ending his race. Loshak continued unchallenged to the checkered flag, putting an exclamation point on his championship with a race win. Slahor and Mayer waged a battle for most of the race, with Slahor taking the second step on the podium and Mayer taking 3rd. Vardis followed them home in 4th and Richard Franklin moved up 4 spots from his 9th place starting position to finish in 5th and win the Sunoco Hard Charger.

Thanks Richard, John Paul and Russ... That means a lot, thank you.

I also would like to thank Mike B, Nick B and Thomas C for putting together an awesome series with a great group of guys and families. I cant express enough how much I enjoy this series and dont miss DSR one bit. The Runoffs are going to be epic! So many drivers capable of taking the championship, its going to be a great challenge.

Watkins Glen is awesome! First time there and I was plesantly surpised by the track and the region. Saturday was well, one of those races... Its racing... I learned somethings and sh-t happens. Sunday everything was right and we came out with a win.

I have to thank Jerry Hodges and Don Connor a billion times for picking me to drive their car, prepping it, crewing for me, setup, data... AND for building such an awesome car to drive. The JDR is kick ass and has been extremly reliable, even in my hands! The second chassis has been completed and sold and they're ready to take orders for 2014. Im hoping to buy chassis #1.

I'd also like to mention, Moon Super Cycle had its most victorius weekend ever. Not only finishing 2nd and 3rd on Saturday, MSC engines swept the podium on Sunday... Including a double win in the west coast series! Power and durability, top notch stuff... And a great friend of mine. So thank you too Greg, you're a big part of our success this season.

Another thing to mention is Alex Mayer won the Majors Championship with consistant finishes through out the season. Congrats again Alex!!

Congrats Lawrence on winning the East Championship. In the West it's still a duel between Jose Gerardo and Lucian Pancea with advantage Jose after Sonoma.

The overall US Formula 1000 Championship looks to be between Lawrence Loshak, Glen Cooper, Jose Gerardo, and Lucian Pancea. We'll have a better understanding of how close things are after Miller next month.
