    Default Clutch job

I've got what appears to be a trashed throwout bearing. (Car won't get out of gear with clutch pedal to the floor, hydraulics are good.)

Can the bell housing be removed from the car with the engine in place? Or do I want to pull the entire engine/gear box, and service it out of the car?

Easy job. Just pull the tranny. It really is easy!

When you go to put it back in, make sure that you put a board under the engine pan to the frame. Otherwise, the engine will rotate down and make reinsert more difficult.

    Default FM Pilot Bearing

Can anyone cofirm the location of the pilot bearing? Is it in the flywheel? Or elsewhere?

The car is put back together, and running. Neither of the guys doing the job pulled it or replaced it, (yeah, we should have) but we got the flywheel resurfaced.

Before we do more than drive the car around the house, we're trying to confirm we don't need to tear it back apart to check for something that is OK.

It's in the crank..You should have checked to be sure that it still had rollers in it and put in a little grease before stabbing the box.

    Dan,

There is a pilot bearing in the back of the eccentric shaft.
Unless you removed it and the seal you should be OK. Darryl's advice is spot on, but hopefully it was not damaged or in need of replacement.

If you need to replace the bearing you will find it is fairly small and does not fit most pullers. I found that Auto Zone has one they rent or sell. It is about $20. You can also rent a slide hammer that attaches to the puller. A couple wacks and it is out. Some guys have used a lot of grease packed in the bearing and an old shaft to pound in and look for hydraulic pressure to push out the bearing. Didn't work for me. Bought the puller at Auto Zone and ground a bit to get it small enough. Now set for the future.
