Default First Road America experience w/ short video

As some of you know I'm new to Road Racing so please go easy on me. The weather was horrible to say the least but I did learn alot through trial and error. (I still have a long way to go) This was an Senna Series FM race we moved to R.A. instead of Autobahn. My best lap was a 2:32 in practice on a mostly dry but cold track on FE Hoosier tires. That is the spec tire for our series.

Maybe a silly question but you don't mention it - how bad was the damage from skirting the concrete?

*ok, editing, just watched to the end of the video*
So, another silly question - when you hit something hard, something had to take the impact shock. At a minimum the rod ends would need to be replaced and any hardware (like the failure nut) surrounding... racecars aren't built like street cars where you can whack a curb and keep on trucking without thinking about it.
An alignment can come out of spec just from driving and usual rumble strips - hitting something would also warrant a reinspection of the alignment...

If that would have broke at speed it would hurt very badly.

    *editing done*

My first observation is - when it starts to rain, get off the usual racing line, esp with slicks.

And yes, it is always cold and damp in the back part of RA... front can be sunny and 80 and canada will be 55 and wet :-)

Yep, those were a few of them lessons learned! What is a "failure nut"?

Great time this weekend for sure. You guys rocked on rains! Brian definately took a chance on that pass. I'm glad he didn't nail the wall as I did. I was about 40 seconds behind them. Watch the end of my video above and you will see what was wrong with the car, scary for sure.

Glad that upright held up, make sure to replace everything on that corner. I am sure there is more than meets the eye. Consider the rack and pinion and feel for any play or notchy travel of the rack. see ya in a couple of weeks for round 3&4.

Thanks Stuart. I'll have the car back together for my first SCCA national this Saturday. I still had a good time at RA, I learned alot. BTW, I hear your new car is bad ass! I look forward to seeing you guys at the sprints.

Thanks Juan. I'll check everything close for sure. Building a new upright this week. You should have hung around Saturday night. We all had a blast at Seibkins getting hammered and talking smack. lol
