    Default Transmission shaft play

    Hi:

Could somebody have a look at this video and tell if this play is normal and within maximum tolerated?

    I never noticed it before.

I did find oil in the bell housing but it didn't smell like transmission oil. Sure seems like a bit of a gap at the seal when the shaft is moved around its axis.

Both of my transmissions were like that too, so I hope it is normal

If you safety wire the two clips that hold the throwout bearing in place it may save you pulling a motor to put back in place. Easy to dislodge when installing a motor. Just wire the clips together through the coil in their middle, clearing the input shaft so it doesn't rib the wire.

Yep, it's kind of like the starter motor. The shaft is actually held in place at that end by the gland nut in the engine,
