Default June Sprints @ Road America

Rounds 7 & 8 of the US Formula 1000 Championship East are part of the June Sprints at Road America, June 14-16. Registration for the June Sprints opens tomorrow, Tuesday May 1 at NOON:
    http://www.motorsportreg.com/index.c...F#.UYB688prOSo

While registering late isn’t a problem, you’ll want to register right away to be able to reserve a paddock spot. In years past, reserved paddock spots (and most of the paddock is reserved) fill up within a few days. The deadline for reserved parking is May 15.
Be sure to read over the Entry Book right away and familiarize yourself with the entry procedure: http://junesprints.com/wp-content/up...Book-Rev-3.pdf

    Don’t wait too long!

Reading thru the drivers meeting in the registration packet, I see we will have some new track condition lights instead of flags at a few stations this year. This should be interesting. Does anyone know if a flashing yellow means the same as a waving yellow or how prior tracks use lights for signaling drivers? I haven't seen any reference material on how they may be used.

That's a great question and something that will turn out to be very interesting. The press release about the light system that they are installing states that it will also do blue flags and surfacte flags. There are no details as to who will control the lights or where they will be positioned.

Lights are always done in addition to flags, so the flags will still be there. It's interesting to me that RA would even take this step. It will probably help them with test days and not having to staff as much, but the pro racing piece is interesting.

F1, ALMS, IndyCar...all have their own lights. Wonder if they will be willing to use RA's and if they are set up to operate the way the sanctioning body wants them to.

The waved versus stationary is a great question. It works in F1 becuase we do a single waved or a double waved to signal on or off course issues. So, a flashing yellow works. The other sanctioning bodies only use the lights for full course yellows, not sure what RA is planning on doing with these things.

There will be flaggers at the stations, so always will see a flag in addition to the light. Where the lights will be positioned is still being determined by RA.

    Default Sprints

I want and need to be there but business commitments prevail.

Chris Young (Aka Critter) Young Racing has an opening in his trailer leaving Atlanta and back and could pick up someone on the way up 75, 65 and north if interested. He also has covered paddock space for someone to rent and he knows these cars backwards and forwards. He could prep your car for the weekend if you need that service that may help you advance you program for the Runoffs.

Mike B had called me few weeks ago to see if I was planning on hosting our usual gathering, just wanted to let everyone know that Colleen and I are going to be there on Thursday but will not be doing the SR/F1000 party.

Rest assured that we will knock ourselves out for the Runoff but I thought about the number of cars in FB/CSR/DSR that will be there and with two races I wanted to make sure that I would have time to help with any repairs on Friday and Saturday if necessary.

Feel free to call my cell if you need anything - see you all there.

The US Formula 1000 Championship would like to invite all competitors, crew, family, and friends to a social gathering at 5:30 pm on Friday, June 14th. The event will once again be held at the Gyrodynamics trailer which will be located in the Competition Paddock, row 10, space H. This is 2 rows south (toward the gas station) of the false grid entrance, close to the fence along the false grid. This will also be where series admin will be throughout the event in case you need decals, patches, or other information.
We will attempt to have some more door prizes to give away and will be asking for a small donation to help cover the cost of food and drink. In the event of inclement weather, we may look for an alternate venue but we’ll try to keep everyone informed.

Travel safe and see you in a few days!

Appears oil on track....all cars called to pit lane....only 3 laps of green flag racing......Marchand out after lap 1, Theilmann out after lap 3.....Bell out after lap 5....

    Cars rolling.....on track....
The first lap will count as lap 7, and then we'll run 4 more (total 11) to the checkers.

Appears that JRO dropped out a lap or two after the restart. Ott hounded Loshak the last 2 laps, but it appears Loshak held on for the win, with Ott right behind.

Fast lap by Brian Novak in the Piper.

Then Coop, Beauchamp, Schader, Mayer filling out the higher positions.... I think. Not 100% sure of my RaceMonitor display.

A little snippet of the as raced wings! Did some development on the wings all weekend and we are definitely getting there. Great package so far! I'm sure someone got some good on track shots.

Had a great weekend despite some run ins with some slower cars and a stuck throttle in the second race! JR was solid all weekend and finally got past his gremlins and I had one heck of a battle with Coop in the second race!

BTW, is this Brandon's former car, or a new one? Just curious...congrats to JR for his win.

It is Brandon's old car. It is still fast, as if that would change with JR driving!
