    Default Monterey Historics FA eligibility

I did not make it out to the Historics last year. If so, I might know the answer to this question. What range of years of Formula Atlantics are eligible for that race?

Up to 1980, only flat bottom. That is, if you have a March 80A (I only saw one and it had flat panels under the side pods) it might be on a case by case basis.

    Default Tunnels?

Thank you, Ethan. If someone were to run an 81A March, are you saying it might be accepted on a case-by-case basis if the tunnels were removed?

So I looked up the info sheet they handed out last year, (and enforced like the race was actually for a purse or something). Apparently I was wrong about the 1980 cutoff date...

RULES PERTAINING TO: 1971-1979 Formula Atlantic
    Years of eligibility:1971 – 1979
The overlying principle is that all cars must be period correct.
Approved engines (basically saloon car steel block):
Alfa t/c; BMW 1.6 SOHC; Fiat 124 DOHC; Datsun 1600 SOHC; Cosworth BDA & BDD
    Ford, 1500, 1600 pushrod t/c Porsche 1582cc Renault 1600cc TS
    Maximum bore: 81.5mm (1606cc)
    Stroke: 77mm
Oversize engines will be addressed on a case by case bases.
    Fuel Injection not allowed
Minimum weight 1050 lbs (If using an aluminum block the minimum weight will be 1110lbs)
    Max 5 forward gears
No ground effect side skirts allowed
    No ground effect tunnels
Wings original positions, same type (element number) period profiles
    Front wings
Front wing leading edge airfoil radius =.6" (1.5cm).
Bodywork or aerodynamic devices (wings) in front of the front tires shall not exceed 59.055" (150cm).
    Rear wings
    Rear wing width = 110cm - 43.307"
Rear wing set-back = 39.4" from CL of rear wheel to end of rear wing
Rear wing height = 34.5" measured on a horizontal plane from the ground w/o driver
    No Carbon/Kevlar composite body panels
Shocks: Non-pressurized shocks maybe double adjustable 8212 KONI or Bilstein
Pressurized shocks shall be non adjustable
    No remote reservoir allowed
Tires: No radials- Goodyear, Hoosier or Avon slicks

I DID see one 80A last year but perhaps that was because it was de-tunelled and he wasn't threatening for a front-running spot. I'd say your best bet is to contact Steve Ferron (he's head of tech for HMSA and his contact info is available on their website http://www.hmsausa.com/about/contact.html). He can steer you one way or the other Robert. Good luck, and maybe we'll see you out here!

Default No FA's at this year's Reunion

Don't load your trailer just yet. Apparently after the hugely successful turnout of really good and well-driven FA's last year, SCRAMP decided there were "better" run groups available for this year's event, and there is no FA group! Amazing. But HMSA is going to try and pick up the slack with their next Laguna race, and are welcoming FA's to same. Go to hmsausa.com, and go figure...

Thanks to everyone for the comments and information. I really love Atlantics. We have an 80A March (without tunnels) and are looking at buying a couple of other cars to campaign. The question of what cars are allowed at Monterey came up and I didn't have the answer. Hope to run with all of you either at that event when the FAs go back or at some other venues.

Default was it a pro car?

If so, there may be pics of it in here already.

If there aren't pics of it in here already then eventually there will be. Reality is a major impingement to picture work these days.

    You are very welcome.

I wish I had the hours to devote to getting more of my images scanned and uploaded. I still have nearly 70k images I want to go through.

Default FA race in Monterey this year?

I have read the posts on this topic with interest. I was led to believe that Monterey was going to run an FA race only on alternate years. Since they had one last year, they were not going to have one this year. Can anyone confirm or disprove this info please?

    Thanks,

    JeffW

This year Historic Grand Prix is on the card. DFV-era F1 cars, and yes Atlantic cars should be back in 2014 from what I've been told.

    Default FA next year

    Thanks for the feedback.

DanW - I did check back in December/January and it never listed an FA race. The latest discussion on this thread seemed to suggest that maybe there was such a race. Had transport lined up just in case, but it does seem that it will be next year.

Mark Jarmeko - who ran a March there last year told me they are pretty rigid on the eligibility of cars, and that they must be set up in period - no trick shocks for example.

    Best wishes,

    JeffW

I would suggest contacting Cris at HMSA. I hear there is an Altantic race at Laguna (legands) in June and perhaps one other later in the year.

    Great era with proper racecars
