    Default Carbir FB

I had a chassis that I aquired with a formula ford, so I decided to build up a F1000. We cut the back of a Carbir FC off, and Kevin Mitz welded on a new back. It has taken at least 10 times as long as I figured it would but we are finally getting close.

I will not have the car done for Laguna but I will come down for a visit.

I wanted to say thanks to Kevin, Doug Learned at Fast Forward for all their help, and to Brian Utt for sending me lots of parts.

I just got the chassis back from the Powder Coaters, if anyone around San Jose needs to have powdercoating done. Ask me the guy I used was very reasonable and likes to do race cars. I am happy to give a reference.

We put a 1/8 stainless belly pan on, that was a job. Lots of drilling, and clamping..
We are using a 2009 GSXR as it fit better with the stock FC pickup points

Looks good. Consider making your locking gizmo for the diff a bit more robust. I'd at least have two pushrods, one on each side. Mine moved a lot until we added enough support. Mine had two going forward and one in the rear like your's plus I'd tighten all 4 pinch bolts. Pushrods not installed here but you can see where they went.

    Default Locking Gizmo

Actually it is a refinement of what I had on my Maloy DSR, that worked fine once we went to solid blocks between the carriers and this is more robust.
It has a tie rod above and below the gear assembly and 4 bolts in carriers it is going to be fine.

I will be done with the car in the next month or two then I want to do some practice days to sort it out.

    Default a few more pics

I got tired of plumbing and wiring yesterday, so I assembled a set of wings and put the body work on and took a few pics
We tightend up the body in the rear, and kevin's packaging of the engine was very tight. He also made a nice dry sump tank that is tucked behind the motor. I have a nice set of stainless headers that are not on yet, perhaps next weekend.

    Cheers,

    John

    Default Hopefully

    Hopefully,

The car should be done, but I need to do a least one test day and I have some job things to sort out before I can run the car.

    See you at Infineon

    Cheers,

    John

John did you buy that body work from here in Wisconsin? Reason I ask is in the rear the two egg shape thing look like something my dad and I did on our old 1998 Carbir DS3 chassis to clear the rear sway bar. It was red and black to if I remember correctly.

    Default Body work

Yes this is your old chassis (front half) and body. It had a bubble round the shifter that I took out that I bet you put in also. I didn't need it for a FB.

The chassis has done some traveling, I got it with another one in Kansas and it had come from California.

    Cheers,

    John

Ha wow what a small world. I never thought I would ever see that car again let alone the body and be able to recognize it. The bubble for the shifter was put in before we bought the car and I would have been fine of it wasn't there as my hand didnt come close to it. But anyway glad to see the car is still around and doing well. The car looks very good as an FB and I hope it handles like a dream!
