Default Ok, I still buy Hot Wheels...

On my usual walk down the Hot Wheels isle when going to Walmart I noticed a new model for 2013 which highly resembled an F500. Looks kinda cool and thought any other kid-at-heart racers would enjoy it as well...

I didn't buy it, but I did pick one up at a Walmart to look at it.

Does Walmart have the national dealership for HOT WHEELS?

Now I admit I don't cruze the toy isles very much but, I never seem to see them in any 'normal' stores.

Nah, they're everywhere. Although Walgreens doesn't carry them like they used to. Heck, I've even seen a little display in the local Jewel.

Here are the stops you should be able to find them at:
    Target
    Walmart
    Kmart
    Meijer
    Toys R Us
    eBay

I have thought of writing a article on the decline of popularity of formula car racing in the US based on what available hot wheel models show up in the mass market outlets.

I have a few hundred Hot Wheels that are only formula cars. Some are very old (e.g. Jim Clarks Lotus). It started sort as a lark. On the way to race tracks a decade ago, Janice would stop the RV at any antique/junk store she could find. She was at that time looking for things with a frog theme. (see previous posts on the invention of "Purple Frog") I would roll my eyes, and cruise through the store looking for anything with a formula car racing theme. For instance, I now have a Wild Turkey Unser Indy car bottle... etc. Turns out i was buying more than Janice. I was buying all these old Hot Wheels formula cars at $.50 cents a apiece.

Also a decade ago, Hot Wheels was doing a lot of F1 and Indy car models. I would buy them at Wal-Mart for a $1 apiece. Target had all of Ganassi's Indy cars at $1 a piece.

It got to be a game. Go into Wal Mart to buy stuff for an oil change on the RV, and grab a $1 formula car.

Then about 5 years ago, the supply train dried up. Hot Wheels quit making the cheap $1 formula cars. Or at least they quit showing up in WalMart and Target. I knew then that formula car racing had fallen out of the American perspective. For i think Hot Wheels/ Mattel has their finger on the pulse of America. Today, all their "formula cars" are artistic creations, not based on reality. Just "artsy" crap.

Now, in 2013, I need to warn NASCAR of their demise. Today, walk the isle of Hot Wheels at Wal Mart and you won't find NASCAR toys either. I think the mine canary is no longer singing for them either.

Personally i think Rand and Monty need to get Hot Wheels to build a 1999-2005 Van Dieman F2000 car to honor their stellar sweep of a decade of small bore racing.

    Dream on.

No wonder I don't see them. I have no reason to go in ANY of those stores.

It shares a strong resemblance with my F5 Invader/Van Diemen Frankenstein, though I don't run a full-width nose.

Regardless, in typical Hot Wheels fashion, a neat piece all-around.

My kids were at Toys R Us a few weeks ago (during our St Pete/Orlando holiday) and called me over to the Hot Wheels aisle and said " Hey look- and F500 car" . SO we purchased it along with one called " 2011 Indycar oval race car."

I also have some of the 6 wheel Tyrells a got a few years ago.

Take off the front wing and it looks like the 2003-4 Red Devil. That short-lived body style is the only F500 I've ever seen that has body pieces behind the rear wheels, like this Hot Wheel and current Indycars.
