Default New rules and intrusion panels

While I'm sure there are many discussions on the new rules I really don't have the time to read and interpret how they should be taken. My question here is on side intrusion panels.

    1. are they required per the new rules?
    2. If so, if a side body panel has Kevlar already in it is that within the rules or do I need a separate panel?

Your kevlar filled body panels that were legal under the old rules will fill the requirement of the new rules.

The biggest change was to allow a third option, the carbon fiber panel that is now in all of the formula rules sections. The only other change to the side impact protection rules is to allow someone to implement more than one of the legal solutions. A strict interpretation of the old rule would have only allowed someone to use either kevlar or aluminum as side impact protection.

The only change in side panel requirements/allowances took place at the start of 2012, with one more method (composite panels) being allowed, and the new allowance that you could use all three methods at the same time if you wished.

None of that has changed for the 2013 rules.
