    Default COTA Entry

    Hi Guys,

The March race at the new track in Austin will be a sellout for sure. Given the length of track, there will be about 80 car run groups.

I have emailed Roger Krebs from the Lone Star Region to ask when he thinks registration may open. I have not heard back from him.

They use www.dlbracing.com for their on-line registration.

As a group, as soon as someone finds WHEN registration opens, please let everyone know. The huge interest in this race will have a lot of guys on the outside looking in.

Hopefully all the FB's can get registered that plan on attending.

    Merry Christmas,

    J.R. Osborne

I have it on good authority that registration will open on January 15. Both the East and West Championships plan to send out an e-mail blast and post here as soon as it's open.
JR is right, we expect registration to fill up and close early so even if you're just thinking about going, register right away to hold a place. You can always cancel later.

It was mentioned in last night's TTAC meeting that motels in the Austin area are filling up fast since there is also a large music concert scheduled for that weekend. We were advised to get a motel room yesterday.

Camping at the track may be an issue as well as I was advised that an RV had to have an annual $15K permit to be allowed to stay at the track.

    Use the link:

    [FONT=&quot]SCCA Hotel Discount Service

It saved me a ton of $$. look up Value Place Austin. They are the only ones that have dropped the ball and didn't jack there prices up yet for the music festival......at least not yet

    Craig,
Where did you hear that? I have been unable to get ANY responses to several questions like that one. Regardless, if they don't allow (reasonable cost) camping with RV's at the track, they'll NEVER see me out there.

    Default I've done it before

and there's no tellin' when it will stop...
I've gotta call BS, or more appropriately "Bad Intel" that was given to the fine gentleman from Alabama (!)

I'm thinking the 15k annual fee, if it even exists, is for something like a year round, parked hospitality unit, or some type yearly local food vendor fee, but Cheese and Rice! - a 15k annual permit for me to stay in my 10k motorhome for a weekend is sounding quite "Eccelstone-ish"!

There's more to the story, it just seems like no one in The Great Republic is answerin'!

Lodging: I made a reservation last night for the Day's Inn in Bastrop (adjoining suite to a certain Jake Lathem, pre drilled walls for pervcam's, etc), which ran $65/ night w/ a King bed.

The closer in to Austin you get will most likely see higher prices for the annual SXSW Music Showcase, speaking of which I full on intend to be checking some of that out -
    Who's with me?!!!!!!!

    Default Agreed

Take Daytona for example- they have a reserved RV area in the infield for Nastycar fans with prices that are similar to what is being thrown around here. That area is not even accessable during an SCCA event.

Apples and Oranges, and should be looked at as nothing more than a distraction.

Default You're a brave man, Coop

Staying next to the all night party that is Jake Latham is a bold move.

    Just kidding, of course.

Anyway, what's the schedule for the event? Is it a SCCA test day Friday, then the regular SCCA National schedule (practice, practice, qualify, race) Saturday and Sunday?

I'm there as well, seemed to be the best deal. I'm also in for some SXSW shenanigans!!

Just to be clear, don't underestimate the draw of SXSW. It's not just a big concert, it's basically a HUGE music/tech/film festival that takes over the entire city. Everything is going to fill up. Fill up with Hipsters! And good luck getting to Franklin BBQ

Glenn/Steve - It could be bad intel but the comments came from people from that area associated with the event. Did not get names, sorry. I asked directly about bringing an RV as my tow vehicle to the event which is when I got the $15K answer.

Since they are finalizing the details, they have not released anything yet. I got the feeling that a number of the details are still being worked.

I wanted to put the RV comment out there so that the many folks who normally "camp" at the track in their RVs, toters, etc could be aware of potential issues to ask the right questions.

Have my rooms but not quite sure of travel. I'll most likely be flying in from Phoenix as I will be there for work at that time. The car is coming down but we are still looking for a way to share costs/hitch a ride. Would prefer to not have to tow the car all the way from Detroit alone.

I thought about doing Hipster Motorsports. I've got the beard, glasses, and some weird hair.

"I won a National Championship once. It's in a really obscure series, you probably haven't heard of it."

..... Oh wait, that's actually true.

They (Lone Star Region, Roger Krebs specifically) are still finalizing things but Registration for COTA will be on DLB and they are hoping to have it ready to open on January 15 (as stated above).

I do believe the single-seat community will be pleased with the run groups.

If any of you want to come early and run the Double National at MSR Houston 2/22-24 you can make arrangements to leave your trailers at MSR Houston. I signed up today and they have a drop down box to fill out for COTA arrangements. Burkett needs some competition. He's the only FB car that ever shows up.

Looks like they've already killed it ... at least temporarily.
I'll bet it was NOT "supposed" to be open.. just the person setting it up, opened it for a couple of people to test to make sure it was working correctly. (I do that EVERY time for my MSR setups.)

SOMEONE let the cat out of the bag and suddenly entries started FLOWING IN .. RAPIDLY and they shut it down.
