Splitting the open wheel and closed wheel groups into different weekends sounds like a good idea.. Until the regions that have fairly low open wheel car counts decide it ain't worth it and start running spec miata races instead

Now that the points structure has changed, does anybody know if the Run-Off qualification criteria will change for 2013 too, or will it remain the same as 2012?

As noted on SCCA.org in the press release about points... 2013 Runoffs qualification criteria will be announced at PRI.

Seriously guys, you really ought to read this chit for yourselves, instead of taking our word for it. That's how rumours and hyperbole get spread.

Let's try a simple example.........that is probably offbase anyway....but what the heck, we're flogging the snot out of this majors horse so why not bring these things up.........

All race tracks are in Regions........all Regionals or Nationals are pretty much put together and run that given weekend by that Region's people. A Division race [example SARRC]...has certain SARRC people helping that race weekend.... who might not be at a purely restricted Regional put on by that Region. A Major is being put on by apparently HQ/Topeka?.........not the Region? ...so all the entry money goes to HQ or to the Region in which the race is being held? ....or they split it? Who pays the track rental for those weekends? That Region or Topeka? Who is paying the Insurance premium.....Topeka or the Region? The Region's people still have to run registration?, provide for workers? [and any gifts to workers?], the Region's people runs timing and scoring? and the Region's Stewards/SOM and Chief Steward run the raceday and hear protests? Who does tech? The Regions Tech Inspectors? Who runs impound?

Are these Majors races to be added to the calendars of existing calendars the Regions put together as much as a year in advance, so that there are an extra few races over and above what's been the traditional dates most Regions have had for years? .....so the Regional people now need to be putting on an additional race?....or.....are National dates in some Regions simply going to be taken over by Topeka.......paid for by Topeka and all income to Topeka and no income going to a Region that used to at least maybe sometimes pocket a small profit in the past? Do corner workers get "extra credit" for working these 'bigger deal/doubles' races? Will Majors be only at tracks the SCCA has not raced at in the past? Will there be a rule that says a Major must be a certain number of miles from a Regional held that same weekend?

    There's a lot of questions............

Generally, and likely universally, these are not “new” races. They are existing Nationals re-badged as Majors.

Regions continue to organize them, following a Majors template, with the Region taking the business risk/reward. The Majors supply a format and a Series Chief Steward (who works with the local stewards).

As far as I know, from what SCCA has published to date, the executive summary from 2014, in 25 words or less, is:

The intent of the Majors is to upgrade National racing by reducing the number of Nationals (now called ”Majors”) and making each event more attractive. Regionals continue as before, except that they will provide a path to the Runoffs for Runoffs classes (i.e. they will resemble in certain respects existing Rationals).
