If I were to guess, Des is going to have all his ducks in a row for customs....he has been there, done that!

We are planning to head down for the birthday party with at least one vintage and one modern car. Not sure who else, but we would have the capability of taking three more cars if people wanted to carpool!

Just to keep it fresh in everyone's minds. I just found out that there are a few racers from Europe and Australia looking at coming to the 50th in April. Hope to see a good Canadian contingent. If nothing else we can get Frank to match wits with the Aussies.

Just got an email from Nancy DeLoatch one of the organizers of the 50th and Hans devices are not going to be mandatory ( Not used in Europe or Australia). But more importantly they are going to try and put a forum together to let anyone that is interested in renting a car out to those who may want to rent a ride.

HANS Devices are used in Europe, but they are not mandatory. Nevertheless, I would expect Arm Restraints and Fire Systems to be a requirement at the Birthday Party.

Derm, could you post the forum link when it's available? We will have cars available to rent for anyone interested that doesn't have the means or the car to do it with.

I didn't go to the 45th Birthday.

You are confusing me for 5-Time National Champion, Brad Stout.

I always get those two confused. Must be the pink cars. I think Brad is the tall one!

I will have the new body on my ex-Landon Mysterian by BP time .......... but no driver.

Starting to think ahead a little more seriously, how many people/cars will be making the trip from north of the border?

Would be nice to get a bit of a convoy together to save on expenses. We have the capability of taking 5 cars with 2 haulers. As of right now, we have 2 cars definitely going, with 2 more possibilities

Shane,

Have you found out the cost of entry fees and all the overheads yet?parking etc,as things are different at US tracks mostly more expensive. Its approx a 22 hour drive to Savhanna(sp),good drive from here, just Hwy 81 most of the way and across to Hwy 95.

From Toronto, its about 1000 miles, 16 hrs, down I77, through Pittsburgh and Charlotte. Nice drive! Track is very cost-friendly so reasonable entry and no extras to worry about. I went to the 45th and it was memorable!

Default Savannah

Savannah is really a fun track -- very fast! In a FV with racing slicks you drive the whole thing in 4th gear with a short box. It was the only place that I could drive my FV like a go cart and left foot brake. The facility itself isn't the nicest in the world but it isn't terrible and it is very racer friendly. One of the best things about going to Savannah is being able to go to the City of Savannah for a dinner or two -- the river front is awesome! Everyone should go if they can -- the 45th was a lot of fun and I'm sure the 50th will be too.

I would like to go but I expect that I need to be at VIR the following Wednesday with a full trailer for a 4-day event. Logistics, and no customers, make my participation doubtful. More chance of flying in for a visit than taking cars, unfortunately.

And, yes Frank, ....... half the active FV drivers in the US are older than you

I am probably going, but I haven’t put too much thought into the logistics yet.

Some other thoughts:
Arm Restraints, SCCA membership and Fires Systems, will be required.

Also it is unlikely that any Canadian Cars with receive their 2013 Annual Tech before going and thus they will be checked in the US and will have to conform to their GCR.

Guy,

I hate to be a downer, but I'm looking at $500+ just for fuel to get from
N.E. Ohio to S. E. Georgia so I'm still on the fence. Maybe I'll go as a spectator
and use the spare money in the form of upgrades towards the car?

That's exactly why we are looking to "bunk up". We can get 5 cars on two haulers. Would make that cost a lot more reasonable.

This is a once in a lifetime event, I plan on doing everything I can do be there

Mark,

Sorry if you can’t make it. I haven’t fully decided either.

Before making a final decision, I really want to see how the Majors and the demise of the Nationals will affect the calendar.

Either way, I think long tows and big gas bills are the future, if you want to go to the Run-Offs.

P.S. Your gearbox has been delivered

Any of the folks north of the border have tires to use for the birthday party? We have a few sets of wheels but no good rubber on them.

Guy,

Thanks for dropping off the box! I may try to make the 50th as a
spectator or crew member since it would save me close to $1000
in fuel and entry fee's if I don't tow to Savannah.

Shane,
I counted up the other day and found I have over 30 Hoosier slicks, mostly mounted. The slicks range from 1 heat cycle to 10.

I have won regional races on tires with more than 10 heat cycles, but in my experience the Hoosiers get progressively slower as the heat cycles increase.

I am sure we could sort something out.

Guy.

That sounds great, I would definitely like to work something out! I'm not sure how many we will actually need as of right now. Will know closer to the date.

By April 5th, the river should be clear again, and most of Bay Street back to normal after the big St. Patrick's Day events.
