The frost that bit the ground below
It was a hundred degrees below zero...

What I remember (not much, and maybe not accurate):

• Jean Luc won overall in a Swift 016. He as battling with Jacek until the sports racer died on track.
• JRO was 2nd OA. The JDR looked fast.
• Glenn was 2nd OA for awhile, but was passed by JRO around midpoint. The Devins/Lincoln DSR looked and sounded good.
• Jim Downing was next in the finishing order. Then maybe Janco (CSR).
• FormulaSuper (Scott Woodruff) was second in FS.
• Probably Paul Schneider won FE (a guess).
• I better stop there before I start making up stuff.

The week was a blast learning a fun new track and meeting a bunch of new great people Qualifying order was: JR, me, Dempsey, Pierce, McEwan and Franklin. Race results were JR, Dempsey, Me, Pierce, Franklin (ran out of gas) and Allstair. JR checked out early. I had a pretty decent gap in second until I spun in 7 and Dempsey and took over. I caught him again in a couple of laps and took second again and opened up a decent gap until I spun again. It took me a bit to get back on and got past by Dempsey and Pierce. By the time I got back on they were way gone. Pierce had tire trouble towards the end of the race and I got by to finish 3rd.
My car was not set up for Atlanta at all. I was planning to swap out the front and rear wing at the track for more down force but the parts weren’t done in time. I was using a single element speedway rear wing and no front wing flaps so it was impossible to go through 1 fast without getting twisted and turn 7 was a nightmare (spun 4 times). I should have just threw turn 7 out but I was convinced I could get through with more speed (wasn’t happening).
All and all I can’t complain I had a ball. Met the JDR guys, Pierce, Franklin, Dempsey, Ray Lathrop: all great guys. I had a bunch of help. Thanks to James lee, M/C guru Shawn Prieto (Prieto Performance), Mike Devins, Brandon Dixon and Wren for bringing me parts and support, Coop for walking the track with me in the middle of the night (hiding from security) and getting me (almost) up to speed. Critter for lending me stuff out his trailer all week. Great community of racers.
Great time can’t wait for the next race!

I watched Q2 at T3. John Paul was one of the best through there. Made me a believer that he can drive. He needed downforce for a track like Hotlanta. I should have forced him to bolt on my rear wing. He'll figure out T7, just needed to get the braking over a bit sooner and only use what the car could deliver. He will be a factor next year. Can't miss with the Citation Co-op, and James Lee helping him.

I was watching Richard deciding on fuel load before the race. I told him to fill it up, but he didn't want to listen to his old driver school instructor.

If it wasn't for the stupid 8" exhaust height rule the 83 car would be using the exhaust to blow the diffuser. They are working on a more aero way to hide the water tubes crossing the gap from the air flow.

Default A picture is 1000 words...

"After being told his car and driver's combined weight were 25 pounds below minimum weight allowed, and therefore disqualified from the final results, Mike Devins of Romeo, MI went on a rampage, grabbing the nearest piece of steel he could, this pic was taken moments before the bludgeoning began..."

OK - Got a few calls, so just to set the record straight - No weight issues, or DQ's, just a really funny pic of Mike D. A moment caught in time that begged a caption!

Coop,
Been too long since you ran with the pros.
You forgot to re-hydrate after you got to impound.

Although i don't think even the pros can drink 3.5 gallons of water in ten minutes.

and you forgot to wear your lucky necklace.

Default Great time, perfect weather!

Congrats to JR and the JDR team. The innovation in FB is what is inspiring.

Great running w/ John Paul, Alistar. (only FB's I raced with) I almost caught my teammate Tim but had fuel starvation in turns 7 & 12 (important turns B4 the two straights) which slowed my pace for the last 3 laps.

As for Tim P., Jeremy Hill's Mosport, Canada incident comes to mind. The inside sidewall of the LF GY tire was pretty disturbing.

Thanks Frog, I'm trying! I drove by your rig a few times looking for you but you were no where to be found. Def needed alot more downforce for 1 and 7. Turn 3 is one of the trickest corners I've done. It's fast and tight and totally blind right up until you get within what feels like a few feet of the apex. I had to figure out where to place the car going into 2 to end up where you need to be for 3. What a fun track to learn, I plan to be much faster next time around! (hopefully)

Default Pierce's GY 160 L/F tire

had a sort of bubble, pretty close to the sidewall/tread junction.
I believe it went out of balance also, causing him to loose his podium spot.

The GY crew told him it might be from running too low of a starting pressure.

About Us
Since 2000, ApexSpeed.com has been the go-to place for amateur road racing enthusiasts, bringing together a friendly community of racers, fans, and industry professionals. We're all about creating a space where people can connect, share knowledge, and exchange parts and vehicles, with a focus on specific race cars, classes, series, and events. Our community includes all major purpose-built road racing classes, like the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) and various pro series across North America and beyond. At ApexSpeed, we're passionate about amateur motorsports and are dedicated to helping our community have fun and grow while creating lasting memories on and off the track.
