    Great idea

16 classes would make for a great event, probably 4 days. When 24% of the entries make up 45% of the classes, that tells us where the problem starts.

What's the point of originally having a rule if you're not willing to abide by it?

...LOVE Barber but not tons of locations as far as motels, etc., close by. Some of the 'thumper' drivers say it's too tight for their liking. I'd sure go watch though--beautiful track.

You are making three assumptions 1) those folks won't find another class currently above 2.5 to race. 2) none of those classes below 2.5 will gain additional entries from other classes and 3) none of those entrants remain in the same class and car and enter regionals.

If SCCA suddenly doubled the amount of classes would there be twice as many total entrants or about the same? I'd suggest it might even decrease because of the further dilution of the event quality.

Some will leave and find other places to race. Some will sell their cars and buy something else that they can race. Some will keep their current cars and enter regionals. Not all 2060 entries will take their money elsewhere.

Same point as parents in the store threatening their kid by "counting to 3" and then doing nothing after 2-3/4.
