Default I need half an inch ---

My master cylinder placement changed in going to a t-type rack and pinion. The AP 4400 masters had to move north a bit, bringing the brake pedal with them. So... I need to lengthen both master cylinder's actuation rods to get the pedal placement right...

Anyone have any horror stories about the use of a short stout threaded tube to get some additional distance between master and pedal? This would be: Actuation rod into threaded extension tube, then threaded rod coming out the other end of the extension tube and connects to the balance bar. Lock nuts at all junctures, of course.

I need maybe half an inch -- the half inch that the previous owners of the master cylinders brutally shore away to fit their race car. All angles are per AP (who won't just sell me longer actuation rods to aleviate this headache).

    Thanks ---

Fast Forward makes extenders specifically for this.

those AP rods are custom shimmed to eliminate take-up......

I use extensions with no problems so far. Threaded aluminum hex.

I have used extensions with female threads on one end and male on the other. No issues as long as the cut male threads are done well. Threaded rod and a jam nut avoids that concern, anyways.

With "I need half an inch --- " in the headline I am amazed that you passed on the opportunity and provided a straight answer!

He did at least use "male" and "female" in his response, so that sorta counts.

I am saddened that you are surprised that I avoided such a hacky premise.

    Chris:

In the past, we've made our own rods of the proper length out of Gr5 or Gr8 hex head bolts - just chuck them up in the lathe and radius the head to the same shape as the AP originals. You then just need to shim them upon assembly to get rid of any freeplay.

I guess we can assume that since you divorced Linda that you weren't able to keep her satisfied?

I have made the rods longer by cutting them in halves & welding in a section of the correct length & diameter bolt.
