Have fun - I would definitely be doing this race if the calendar read 2013, but it's just going to be too soon for me this year. Fingers crossed that it's on the calendar next year.

    Default Still Growing

10 entries with almost 3 weeks until we race. We have a real shot of WGI matching our largest event ever (16 cars).

Pull out all the stops, sell the wife and kids and get yourself to WGI in an FST for The 2012 Hoosier Tire Formula First Championship final points race of the season.

    Default One answer

    Steve

When asked the about too many very fast cars at our BBS Doug Seim gave this answer

"I would not expect WGI to be as chaotic as the ARRC for testing. I'd say there are two factors here. First, WGI is very wide with long straight sections between corners. There is no segment similar to Atlanta's turns 2-5. Second, this is a very large regional weekend but its still a regional weekend. The ARRC draws a ton of high end CSRs, F1000's, FA's, FA's with hot engines running FS, etc. We will get passed quite a bit at WGI but the speed differential will not be so extreme."

Default the big one is coming

Talked a number of racers and the thing I’m hearing the most is this weekend will be the time the cars are being prepped, new parts installed, alignments tweaked in preparation for the long drive to Watkins Glen New York. We will be racing on one of the storied tracks in North America. There are things that will happen there.

Jason Steeb is packing up the series trophy and sending it to me and a new Hoosier Tire Series Champion will be crowned Sunday night. Yes it looks definitely like it’s down to the wire for this one between Doug Seim and Rob Clark. Another down to the wire will be Rookie of the Year between Jon Mader and Dr. Doug Sharp. Again we’ll know Sunday night but Dr Doug’s strong performance at Road America puts him out front but it will be interesting for sure.

Another of those things that will happen will be the first lap record ever recorded for a FST on the Glen short course. Thats because there is no record on this configuration. Boy do I hope it stays dry and warm for this race! I’m pretty sure we will see a new lap record on the long course on Saturday if the weather cooperates.

With a degree of certitude I can tell everyone that it will be a great race for FST, as always, rain or shine. It looks like a great field and an eagerly anticipated event.

Now for a quiz. Right to left top row to bottom the group picture at www.formula-first.org who are the drivers of the those cars? Hint the Citation on the right bottom row is now owned by Gary Sharp but even I can’t remember the driver’s last name.

Let’s another even bigger group picture at the Glen. Jim please bring your ladder!

    Default Tourism

There is an actual tourist/historic site at the Glen but when you see it in its present manifestation you won't believe it.

In the meantime go here and maybe you might see your father and mother misbehaving.

    Default errata

Butch is right the two of us could have been at the Bog

I was also wrong about the fact that there is no FST lap record on the short course. The FLR/SCCA web sit had old records and in 2009 Randy Shinn went to the Fun One and he owns the current lap record.

Sorry to both Butch and Randy and I'm hoping to see both of you Friday at the track.

Ok - We have hit 14 cars entered.....35 in the Race Group!

Hopefully everyone is just about set, should be a few cars testing Friday...

Everyone entered should have received the updated info re the Registration and Tech times, but essentially Registration for the weekend will be open

Thursday 6pm-8pm - Registration (for the weekend only - no Tech)
Friday 6am-10am Registration for the Test Day only
Friday 6pm-10pm Registration + 'express tech' at the registration building, if you have you annual and helmet sticker
Saturday 7am-10am Registration & Tech at the North End of the Garages.

Robert has relayed all the info re access to the track....

    Default good additional news

One good thing I’ve heard about the event. At WGI you have to use a certain number of track-employed corner workers. When their workday is done -racing is done. I don’t know if I’m supposed to blab about this--- but because of strong registration the region has authorized an overtime fund that can extend the racing day.

    Great Idea

I wanted to give everyone a shot at this, but alas, nobody was game for the challenge.
Here is the 2006 WGI line up:

Greg Rice, Carl Middelegge, Doug Seim, Doug Dale, Randy Shinn, Dave Blevins, Guy Bellingham, Rob Howden, Eric Boghossian, Matt Gordon and Andy Shelton (Citation now owned by Gary Sharp).

    Default Its Starting

I’m hearing from drivers who are already close to Watkins Glen and many others who intend to leave tomorrow and register Thursday night. All want to know where we are paddocking. They have reserved an area for us but “reserve” isn’t a strong word.

We are in the area behind the pit straight grand stand. The first row is diagonal for motor homes but the next one is what we want. If you come in under the tunnel keep going straight. You’ll see a snack bar. It’s a huge paved area to the right. Staying close to the snack bar and bathrooms is a good thing.

We seem to be at around 270 entries for the race and will undoubtedly go higher.

    That's Great

    Hi everyone,

I came down with some kind of sickness over the weekend and while I was hoping to shake it by the weekend, it seems to just keep getting worse. Regretfully, I will have to withdraw from the weekend to ensure my health. Good luck to everyone this weekend, see you all next year.

    Default testing

Things got accomplished and most testers got comfortable with the track. I'll still surprised at the resiliance of our drivers. RA in the rain was hard on the electrics, especially, but everyone got through this stuff. Unfortunately Dave Dawson had a big off. Dave was very sore last night and the car can't be fixed at the track. I'm sure we'll see Dave today and get an update.

Friday was 86 and not optimum. I was surprised at the high tire temps for such a fast track. The drivers said the surface was surprisingly rough especially the braking zones which made for some adaptation. One thing for sure it will be cool and sunny today. Carl's track record is toast.

Very pleased last night when Randy Shinn drove in and the registration reform efforts were really effective.

Others will have more stories but today looks like it will be a blast!
