The 1st race was one of the toughest I have ever ran. It was about 100 degrees, water temp was 228, and my car had a ton of understeer. After getting the jump on the start I proceeded to do everything I could (no double blocks though) to keep Larry behind me. 21 laps on the East course of Miller makes for a loooong race. At lap 19 1/2, I pushed wide and had to get out of the throttle too much. Larry was able to get side-by-side and that's all she wrote.
For the 2nd race we stayed up late and took out the diff to reconfigure it, changed springs rates and added additional winglets to the front. Finally we had a race car. Still not quite the pace of Larry, but definitely something we could put up a real fight with. Got another good start and drove a pretty much error free race. Larry was always within a few car lengths, but because the balance was much better, the tires stayed under me and the car had pace the entire race.
2 years ago, the fastest FB time was 1:26.9. Larry was on pole with a 1.25.0. It was a labor intensive weekend to get the car up to his pace, but when we crossed the line 1st, it was special for sure. We ended up with the FB race record to boot.
Just have to give big thanks to a couple of guys:
Ted and Trevor for working late and working to make the car better.
Lee Williams for staying up late via cell phone to talk us through modifying our Williams diff. What service. That dude really cares about his business.
Greg Moon at Moon's Supercycle for building a kickass engine that has run flawless for 3 races in oppressive conditions. You da man.
Take Care,
