It would be interesting to see one of our cars with wider rear wheels than the front wheels.......spacers or a wider rim with bloody big fat tires

F1200's barely have enough power for the current lead weight of a tire you are already runing? It may be cheaper to race this way but it is not the fastest way to race a vee.
a larger-wider rear tire will only slow the car down, a ford rear would likely slow you 4 or more seconds per lap.
FV or f1200 is a low power formula, if you want larger rear tires than you will need to move up to Formula First where they use the formula ford tires all the way around and a VW 1600 engine. they have around 85 to 95 hp I suspect compared to your 50 to 55 if you have a really strong motor.
you may be better to push for allowing aluminum wheels that would look nicer on the cars.
I think this is a great idea. I understand the current rule is to keep the cost down, which reads:
c) Wheels shall be steel, EITHER:
i) 330 mm by 140 mm or 152 mm, OR:
ii) 355 mm by 152 mm),
AND a minimum weight of 5.44 kg each.
If we kept a minimum weight to keep costs down, but took away the steel requirement, it could open up some pretty cool posibilities for wheels

Great idea!just look at photos of the Aussie/UK Vees...nice looking cars with thier different wheels etc.
Don't know how much of a savings there will be? But would aluminum hold up as well as the steel? Let's face it, we bang up these wheels pretty good.
You got to be kidding?
Why would we mess with a 32 year formula of success? We're the cheapest formula class in North America.
Frank, you're still running obsolete tires .... why would you want to spend $800+ for the cheapest aluminum wheels available. Shane .... do you want to outfit your fleet of cars with new wheels. People that want aluminum wheels can go race FF.
Bigger rear tires would slow the cars down, not speed them up.

please please please
lets not even go this route
the formula is to keep it inexpensive , everyone know how good and cheep the steel
wheels are they hold up better than alloy wheels less likely to have to replace when going off track, how many manufacture still make 14 inch alloys unless they are discontinued stock you would be paying thru the nose for them.
as a club maybe we could put are efforts and energy into 50 birthday weekend at a major weekend at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.
just a thought from a newbie
looking forward to back in a vee after so many year
see you all at the Barc weekend
Cheers

Let me re-state what I meant my my post:
1) KEEP the minimum weight and the wheel size. This would mean that the current steel wheels would not be "dated", and stay competitive with whatever people came up with.
2) ONLY remove the requirement of the wheels being steel. Odds are nobody would go away from the steel wheels regardless...it would just give someone who is really looking to "show" off their car to put some pretty aluminum wheels on it.
It's just a thought, and Greg, I can tell you that we would definitely NOT be changing wheels on any of our cars.
And yes, wider tires makes absolutely no sense with the power we have

Desmond, we have actually looked into this a bit already. We had the thought of making the VARAC Vintage Festival to be Formula Vee featured. If it would work, it could attract up to 20 vintage vees, and we could run in our own grid as the modern feature, perhaps bring up some interest from US guys. The problem on the vintage side is they already have a major vintage weekend at Beaverton on the same weekend.
It is a good idea to try to do something though...perhaps we can try to work it on a F1200 club level and try to tie it in with the Vallis Cup?

Because everyone would look at my aluminium rims and not at my obsolete tires .......32 yr old class!!!time for change..Im working on a cd player and cup-holder which will all fit nicely on top of my extinguisher ..Im a forward thinking person,it will attract younger drivers to the class...Starbucks/Beiber playing as you hit corner 5A...ye!im way ahead of you guys..I wouldnt buy aluminium wheels..it was just a nice thought, especially on a cosmetic viewpoint.
Frank, it is before noon still...aren't you starting a little early again?
Steve Bamford
frank, CD's aren't forward thinking LOL! sorry buddy
yeah the rims are kind of hunky but in motion it isnt bad, just standing still they dont look good
