    Default Sports Racers on ApexSpeed!

I can honestly say that over the recent years, we have had more requests for a Sports Racer section of ApexSpeed than any other section as we have built this site to be what it is today. I have always debated internally about this, because I felt that we were strictly an open-wheel formula car site, and with other SR and S2000 boards out there, we didn't need to add to the noise unnecessarily. A few years ago, we even had discussions with one of the other boards about combining the communities—it never materialized, obviously.

There have been more rumblings over the last few months, with increasingly more requests for a Sports Racer section here on ApexSpeed. Well, your requests have not gone unnoticed.

So here you go! If there is enough traffic here and interest from the class participants, we will build this section up more with more specific sections, like some of the other formula classes. If the need/want arises, we will also consider breaking the forum up into the respective classes, including S2000. There is so much overlap with their open-wheeled siblings, it just makes sense to invite the Sports Racer cars into ApexSpeed.

We hope this new forum grows and develops into a strong component of the ApexSpeed community, and we warmly welcome all Sports Racers into our home.

ApexSpeed is all about purpose built race cars. SR is a natural fit. Finally!

I think it's a good idea but let's put them on super secret probation so we can kick 'em out if they aren't up to ApexSpeed open wheel standards.

Just kidding. It's a great addition to the community.

BTW - It probably goes without saying that the forum provided by Bill Maissey for many years has been great and much appreciated by very many of us. I've never owned a sports racer but really enjoyed and benefited from it.

    Exccellent Doug and thanks.

I'm about to add a WSR to my FFs and I was looking for a good forum in order to get some questions answered. Apex Speed has a great reputation and is very well maintained. I hope this SR forum takes off, looking forward to it.

I agree these are a purpose built race car and as such, should be part of an open wheel forum.

Now if we could get the swift registry back that would be cool too.

    Default This is good!

So often I will punch into Sports Racer net for data (concerning our F1000 car), but the site is, well... not as good as Apex...

Glad we'll now be able to get some SR stuff here. It's a very logical move, Doug.

    Thanks

But I thought real racecars don't have fenders?

Cool, another reason for me to waste time on Apexspeed instead of getting work done...

    Default Thanks

Doug, thank you for adding to one of my favourite sites. Now you have all the places I need info all rolled into one site! Thanks, and give us a chance to start building the section. There is a lot of good stuff going on and now we have another great place to share.

I challenge the other CSR guys to start posting here; I would love to hear more about what is going on in CSR....

    Again, thanks!

THanx Doug. Great to have a place to share data with other purpose built racers. Particularly since most of the open wheeled types run in the same race groups as I do.

Someone mentioned vintage. There is a middle ground in DSR where the AMACs and Cheetahs reside. They were the cars of the 1990's. Most are running newer engines that would not be considered "Vintage" for their own period. Chassis are too new to be vintage but do not have the aero effects that the Stohrs and newer type DSRs have. Thus we are a bit slower than the newer DSRs (or maybe it is the old driver).

When the dust settles on the class structure, we'll adapt accordingly.

Be well, and start thinking up some great ideas for discussion. For me, I think the opportunity to follow the cool guys in DSR/CSR, S2000 and SE in one place is a great thing.
