Default Limerock Park longbox/shortbox? Some Answers

Every time I have gone to LRP I have taken the time to change from my short box trans to my long box. This past weekend I decided not to change it. I kept my 1:26 third gear short box in place. This was not a guess. Steve Pasture from Vee sport racing told me if I was not running at the 1 min mark I should be fine. My previous lap times were 1 min 4 sec, In the Events I have been in. Yesterday I got a 4th and a 5th with the short box in the car and it worked fine, and I got into 1 min 3 sec range so if you want to race at LRP and haven't." leave the short box in." John Ferreira Also ran a short box with a 1:22 third gear and it also worked fine.
So if you have been avoiding LRP because of a gearbox change come on down your short box will be fine until your running in the 1 min zone. I am not sugesting if your a national driver running lap record times to use a short box , but for the rest of us It will work just fine. this Info is by Peter Cheney formula vee #06 and is for information only, At the end of the front straight I was pulling 6350 rpm at the number 3 board for breaking for Big Bend and my 3rd to 4th shift was by the flag stand on the start of the no name straight. Hoping this will help drivers that just don't want to change the gear box for the race a Limerock come on down and play with us.You will be fine.

I will 2nd what peter said. I too saw between 6300 and 6400 at marker #3.
Of course I only got down to the 1:05's ...
Seems Peter and Craig where either playing with me or I gave them both the incentive to go 2 sec's quicker when I finally caught them ....

As you go faster, the shortbox impairment is through big bend and the esses. The uphill/downhill performance tends to equal out ..... but the shortbox 3rd is too short and the shortbox 4th is too tall ..... to be good through those critical first few corners.

    Default thanks Greg:

I am sure your correct. we get 20-25 cars at NHMS then we go to LRP and no one wants to come play, because of the gear box change. So we end up with 8-10 cars.I just wanted to let the folks know for the most of us Regional drivers. You can get to LRP and run your short box ,and not be afraid your gonna blow your engine. The other problem with LRP is the Friday, Saturday sched. I also believe You could go 1min 1 sec with the short box and still not blow your engine. Again this is just info so we can get more people to show up at LRP. I know I am losing 2 seconds at the uphill and west bend I am just old and slow amd have too much common sense and self preservation to go thru there flat LOL Peter Cheney FV#06

Peter there are a number of reasons that some do not run LRP and the gearbox change I do not think is the biggest reason.

The Friday, Saturday thing is a pretty good one and the fact of cost to run there along with a day off work.

And I think the biggest reason maybe safety for open wheel cars. Seems like to offen I read about someone having a issue on the downhill and unfortunately we are praying for another driver who has had a serious accident there.
