thx Josh for actually supplying info. Congrats to Brandon and crew for his wins and to Jason for a 4th place finish in a car that was towed north with no motor in it.

The big question starting to develop... Will two guys from Alabama be allowed to invade Europe later this year?

Therefore, we have restructured our prize fund with significant increases in the, per race Prize Purse. Each race’s purse has been increased from $3,700 to $11,950 in cash and awards. That's almost $24,000 per event and doesn't even include various contigency programs available. In total, there will be more than $175,000 in cash and awards in 2012.”

The Formula 1000 Championship Series Tow Fund will remain in place to further assist teams with their operational expenses.

The Series Champion will receive over $50,000 in cash and awards. In addition to a healthy cash prize at the end of the season, the Champion will also win the opportunity to test with one of the strongest teams in Europe, Fortec Motorsports, in Formula Renault 2.0, in the UK. The Champion will also receive a Lotus-Renault GP i-race program, where he or she will spend a day with the Lotus-Renault GP team at the world-famous Hungaroring, driving Formula Renault 2.0, Renault GT cars and a couple laps in a Renault F1 car.

Default I am typing

from the Hilton Garden Inn Buffalo, where we are holed up for the night, after missing our flight.
Tip for leaving Mosport and heading back to the US: Make sure you exit off of WB 401, onto WB 403, which heads to the Niagra Falls area and entry back to the US.
Continuing on WB401, fresh off of the high of dual 2nd place finishes in the innaugral F1000 Championship Series race weekend, will soon see you headed for Detroit...
(I almost got it turn't around in time... almost.)

Full Coop Chronicle to follow, but YEAH, thar ain' no internet, nor any real kind of cell phone service available to 'mericuns up thar.

Oh yeah, we got to experience the incredible Canadian health care system, after some fools in a golf cart heading straight towards Ana on the Motra pit bike caused her to grab a handful of front brake and spill right onto her elbow, requiring a few stitches @ the EXCELLENT track quack shack. Later we had to go into Bowmanville for a tetanus shot which never happened after a couple hour wait.

I was sick as a dog all weekend, and only felt "right" for Sunday Q and race.

Full report to follow... BUt know this - The racing was MEGA!

Similar thing happened to me at Topeka in 2006. I was riding the Honda Ruckus, and a guy in a gold cart was traveling the opposite direction down the paddock road. As we neared each other, about to pass by, he looked over his RIGHT shoulder and made a LEFT turn in front of me. I didn't even have time to squeeze the brake before I collided with the front of the golf cart, sending me flying over the bars. Cut my knees up, and I think probably fractured my left knee cap, as it hurt for months and has never been quite right since. The guy stopped long enough to watch me limp back to the accident from where I landed and stand the scooter up to survey the damage, then mumbled, "Oh, sorry," and drove off, leaving me to bleed and drag my scooter to the trailer alone. Later on, I went around the paddock looking for the offending golf cart (black with shiny wheels and crash damage), and found it belonged to Phil Simms, the GT1 guy. The damage was still on the golf cart the last time I saw it at a track, which was probably 2 years ago.

Default Awesome Mosport Race Weekend

I'm typing from the passenger seat of the truck on the way home. It's good to be back in the US and have internet service. The lack of coverage up there from the competitors was due to the crazy fees and lack of signal. My phone didn't really work at all from our paddock location.

Thanks everyone for the congratulations! The weekend could not possibly have gone better for me. The car was very, very good right out of the trailer and I was able to get acclimated to Mosport quickly. We top the time sheets every session other than the last session of the day when we took the time to just scuff some tires for Saturday.

I like Mosport a lot, but I still feel that it has plenty of nuances to reveal to me with more time there. It was an old school racetrack and a roller coaster for sure.

The F1000 Championship Series staff put on a great event for the competitors. Sorry that there wasn't much information coming out, but Jon and his crew seemed focused on taking care of the teams at the track. It was a new series for everyone, but everything was on time, we were always informed about any change to the procedure, etc. I felt like they were glad that each and every one of us was there. It was a great start to the series.

I'll try to put up some in-car video in the next few days.

Default Great Weekend !

Congrats Brandon and all the F1000 competitors.

Jon Lewis has done a great job and it is exciting to see all of his hard work come to fruition.

The weekend was exciting with great weather, great competition at a fantastic track.

Please be patient with info since the Wifi @ Mosport is practically non-existent and we were all warned about excessive roaming and data charges via cell phone.

One thing I want to point out was the absolute comaraderie in the paddock. I observed many competitors helping others trading spare engines, tools, equipment etc. to make sure everyone present had a chance to compete.

The huge number of fans at Mosport should also be commended, they were cheering us all on and absolutely love open wheel cars.

As for our young F1000 team, Area 81 Racing made a respectable showing for Rounds 1 & 2 of the F1000 Championship Series.

Here Tim Pierce and Richard Franklin take the Checkered Flag at Mosport for 6th and 7th position in Sunday's race. I assure you this was not staged and my right foot was planted!

JRO: We can just spray the girls...

Coop's inner monologue: I wonder, how many Vienna sausages could I eat? 20? No, more than that. 50? 100? I don't know, 100 seems like a lot. Could I, though? You know what, I think I could. I really do. Man, would I feel bad though. <chuckle> But that would be a real accomplishment. I bet people would be truly impressed. Why DO they call them Vienna sausages? That seems like a funny name. I mean, they don't come from Austria or anything. What am I saying, I have no idea where they come from. They might come from Austria for all I know. But yeah, probably a hundred. I'm going to stick with a hundred. Anyways, what was this guy with the camera saying again?

What a great weekend of racing. We had a few problems that slowed us down mainly as we were still putting the car together when we got to the track.

The crowd was amazing. We must have had at least 100 people stop by to ask about the cars.

Brandon was, as usual, amazing. Perfect prep, perfect drive etc. Coop and JR were also at the top of their game and raced as hard as anyone can.

One of the coolest things about the entire weekend was when one of the NASCAR (Canadien) racers asked me how fast our cars were and I told him that the pole was a 1:17 & something. He was totally blown away as they were doing 1:28s.

On another note the fastest car of the weekend was Tony Ave in his TransAm car. On the pole about 1 second faster than Brandon. VERY COOL.

Jon Lewis and his crew did an AMAZING JOB with their 1st F1000 Pro Race. ZERO problems and simply flawless. It can only get better guys so get your cars to the next race, you will not be disappointed.

Thanks ... Jay Novak

I think the next biggest problem to tackel after a great first weekend is to get the numbers of participants up.

30 t0 40 cars would make a great series that would demand people take notice.

Congradulations to all involves in the Mosport race.

Canada has a long tradition of MC powered formula cars. Maybe this will start a new phase both North and South of the border.

I agree with Steve about the numbers but in fairness the 1st year always seems to be the lowest as the fence sitters wait to hear back the reports from their friends and other competitors to see if its worth getting involved. the 1st seasn of F2kCS was bascially 16 cars, year 2 was over 30 after word spread. I think the same kind of thing will happen here with postive reviews.

Default Hooters Girls

You guys are making me out to be some kind of dirty old man!! Those girls were young enough to be my grand kids!! The blond girl was asking me what she had to do to become a Racecar driver, I was just explaining it to her. OH God what I would give to be 30 years younger!!! They didnt build em like that when I was young.

As everyone that was there has posted the weekend was fantastic! Congrats to all of the competetors, I got to meet some new faces and meet some customers that I had only met on the phone, I got to see a few of the new young guns and by my observation with a little seat time these guys are going to be fast!! I hope they stick with it.

Jon lewis put together a great show and assembled a good working staff to help put it on. I think the season is going to be great!! See you guys in Jersey

Big congratulations to Glenn Cooper on his double podium weekend, that champaign tasted real good. A special thanks to Tim Pierce for allowing us to work with him over the weekend and helping giving him the speed he needed to hold off his team mate during some great racing, Nico Vardis did a wonderful job showing he has a very tactful mind just absorbing every little bit of information he could find even though his weekend did t end as we all wished he proved that he has the talent to fight at the front, and last but certainly not the lease a special thanks to the Ortiz clan at FOR. Nicolas Ortiz started the weekend only ever stepping in the car once before, he showed maturity and patience beyond his years (15 years that is) and came home never putting a foot wrong, and improving his race pace from an 8th place finish in r1 to p5 and this is just the beginning, watch out Brandon. Also his father Fernando who wants nothing more than his son to succeed in every way possible, Robert for coaching him through the weekend and keeping him on his toes and finally hernan who made it all possible with his dedication to his nephew and all the help he provided through out the weekend.

Default podium fun

3rd place and the podium celebration was the highlight of a very difficult weekend for us, our high hopes for a win were soon dashed when a left front tire blew 1/2 way through turn 8 in the very 1st test session, we spent the better part of 22 hours replacing the left side suspension, patching, repairing the body work, 1/2 shaft, brake disc and even welding up a new clutch pedal, we got a good start in race 1 but by lap 5 the handling had become evil as if something else was broken and the left front tire felt as if it was about to blow again, i headed to the pits twice to get it checked out and then cruised around in last place , we went over the car with a fine tooth comb on sat night but the only thing obvious was that the front tires were about to blow! fresh tires for r2 quali saw a big improvment and we were able to salvage a 3rd place in race 2, but...the left front tire would not have done a full green race or 1 more lap at speed and since i was slow in 8 (chicken) it would have failed somewere worse such as exit of 1? the engineers at goodyear have taken the failed tires back to akron and have assured me that they will have an answer soon, enjoy the pics!! jeremy hill fb 00

Default Qualifying Video

Here are my three "fliers" from the Sunday morning session. The video doesn't do the place justice, the elevation change is downright shocking.

I think that the video production from Speedcast will be really, really good (other than any places that they talk to me on camera ). I hope that they get good video of lap 1 of the Sunday race. JRO and I went side by side through 1, 2, and 3. I couldn't make the outside of 3 work, so I wound up 3rd by T4, but it should make for great video.
