Miller Motorsports Park Site of Pacific F2000/FF Super Series Rounds 3 and 4

Buttonwillow, Calif. (April 24, 2012) – The Pacific F2000/Formula F Super Series Championship Presented by Corsa Car Care celebrating its ninth season returns to Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah for rounds 3 and 4 after a three year hiatus from the circuit as Part of the Utah Grand Prix weekend where it joins the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West.

The series boasts of four extremely quick and talented rookies joining veterans for a highly competitive championship where qualifying produces fields covered by as little as 2 seconds.

One of those rookies, 19 year old Riverside, Calif. resident Bobby Kelley, fresh from winning the inaugural Mazda Road to Indy Scouting Combine, claimed victory in his debut for Dave Freitas Racing in round 1 at Willow Springs International Raceway at the end of March. In round 2 Kelley set out to prove that he is one of the top contenders for the series title by winning his second race and sweeping the weekend’s events in his Van Diemen.

Another rookie and teammate to Kelley at DFR is Camden Geise, a 2007 EKN Top Gun Award winner in another Van Diemen. Geise also had a successful weekend finishing second in round 1, third in round 2 and claiming a pole position and fastest race lap honors. Geise provides a serious challenge to his teammate Kelley as they fight for the series championship.

PR1 Motorsports with a rich history of championships and championship contenders also begins this season with a pair of rookie drivers at the wheel of the immaculately prepared Van Diemens. Camren Kaminsky joins Colin Wall at PR1 as they work to place their mark on the series. Both drivers proved to be on the pace from the outset with Kaminsky setting the fastest lap in qualifying for round 1 and finishing on the podium in second place in round 2.

Series veterans include Ira Fierberg defending Expert Class (drivers 35-50) Champion in his sixteenth season with DFR, Les Phillips former Master Class (drivers 51 and up) Champion, Bob Negron, former Star Mazda competitor and defending Master Class Champion, Peter West driving for DRF, Peter Thomas with PR1 and Bill Kincaid.

In its second year is the FF Super Series which is made up of current model Formula F (formerly Formula Ford) cars with either the 1600cc Ford ‘Kent’ engine or the newly added 1500cc Honda ‘Fit ‘ engine. Chassis include Swift, Van Diemen and Mygale. The class has seen a resurgence with the addition of the Honda engine and the support of Honda Performance Development including contingency prizes up to $500. Honda is also providing conversion kits for several later model Swift and Van Diemen chassis as well as the new Piper.

Returning to the series this year is last season’s F2000 Series Champion Conner Ford now driving a 2011 Mygale/Honda and looking to take Formula F honors. Conner won round 1 and finished second in round 2. Mygale is re-entering the American market and combined with the Honda engine has proven to be both quick and reliable.

Challenging Ford this season is Ed Erlandson driving a Swift DB6/Ford. Erlandson was a close second in round 1 and pushed Ford throughout round 2 eventually claiming victory.

The series format provides several races within the race as competitors’ battle for top honors in Expert, Master and Formula F classes as well as for overall victories.

Qualifying for round 3 begins at 11:00am Friday on the West Course with the race to follow on Saturday at 1:45pm. On Sunday the series switches to the Outer Course with qualifying at 8:30am and the race at 4:15pm.

In the eight year history, the series has produced such notables as J.R. Hildebrand a 2005 Team USA Scholarship winner, 2009 Indy Lights Champion and current Indycar driver with Panther Racing and Dane Cameron a 2006 Team USA Scholarship winner and current driver in both ALMS with Dempsey Racing driving and LMPC Oreca and the Rolex Championship driving a Mazda for Team Sahlens.

Other alumni of the series include current NASCAR Nationwide Series driver Jason Bowles and Team USA Scholarship winners Joel Miller, Robert Podlesni and Patrick Barrett. Barrett is also a former winner at Miller Motorsports Park when the series visited in 2007.

The single-seat, open-wheel F2000 cars with their 140+ horsepower Ford Zetec engines are capable of speeds in excess of 140 mph. All cars run on Cooper Tires supplied by Sierra Tire with a single set used for the entire weekend adding the element of tire management to the race strategy.
