Default Hello guys, I have completed my second exoskeleton race car!

Here is a link to my first car that I posted about 2 years ago -
    http://www.apexspeed.com/forums/show...andrew+keisler

I have completed my second exoskeleton car, this one features a 100 percent new frame with a honda k20a2 engine. I reworked all my suspension design a geometry and managed to use alot of parts off my first car to complete this one ie- front brakes, front spindles, wheels and tires, seats, and steering componates. The engine in mostly stock aside from the fuel system, intake setup, exhaust setup, and kpro ecu. I plan to mount a m62 eaton supercharger to the k20 very soon.

The car was finished in september of 2011, but other then some east Tennessee backroad driving, I wasn't able to test the car out until a autocross a few weeks ago.
    Here is the video -

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5PKBpXRJYVw

I plan on getting to some test and tune days at some near by road courses asap.

I am now in school for manual and cnc operating/programming. I have purchased my first cnc mill and plan to start my own business in the next year or so designing and manufacturing suspension componates.

Please feel free to ask any questions, thank you all for your support with the first car and I hope you all like this one even more!

Amazing for a guy building it from scratch with his own hands.

Wish I had talent and skill one tenth of that.

    Very nice Car

Looked like a fun run. How about some pics of the car, design comments, etc.

WOW!! That thing does pretty good... LOL

Sorta reminds me of an Ariel Atom.

With a little more work, you might have a marketable vehicle there.

Some of us non-engineering types want to see more pictures of the passenger.

Neat car! Having built a few myself i appreciate the effort. And the K20 is a serious hot rod motor.

A few recommendations though; develop some bar or something to prevent legs from getting flung out of the cage in a tank-slapper or side impact.
Water radiators located where you have them create certain problems. Some sort of shielding to protect the occupants would be a good thing. A hose rupture, or cap leak and... If you doubt the seriousness of this, have a talk with Chuck Cecil sometime. That passenger is way too pretty to be scarred for life like Chuck.

Its all fun and games til someone gets hurt.

    Matt,
I didn't think we would hear from you during hockey season.
I'm not worried about Andrew getting hurt, it's that cute chick I'm trying to protect.

Andrew, at the next event or after over beverage I will tell you what happened to Chuck. Preferably after the event since I'm usually too busy to chat too much during the event.

Sounds good Ted, I'm actually running 2 radiators, I installed the lower one first and it wasn't sufficient enough to cool the engine. I installed the 2nd one a few days before the event. I really haven't left myself with any other place for it unfortunatly.

The legs arn't a issue, I see where your coming from by looking that the pictures. Once you sit down in there you would understand that for a leg to come out, the knee would have to be broken in a sideways manner.

I do want to address the raditator issue, I have just ran out of room back there.

In a good side-slapper, the knee WILL bend in a sideways manner!

Exactly my thought. Andrew, mount some thin polycarbonate to the inside of the frame rails. The way one can still see in and out through the frame, and the driver's and passenger's legs are constrained.

And a piece of plexiglass will keep all the stones and marbles from going up your shorts. And a sheet is nicer to bang you leg against than a single bar.

I'd also build a "grab bar" for the passenger to hang on.

I guess us old grayhairs have seen too many rollovers where limbs ended up where they couldn't go in the original design of both car and limb. My experience is from many tube frame dune buggy type vehicles.

You say it's not a problem, but what happens if you take an arrow in the knee?
