    Default Fuel Consumption

Wondering what mileage a FB will get running at full song.

I'm putting together a 1965 MK1 Cortina with a ZX10 in the Drivers seat running a propshaft to the differential. Then converting to Right hand drive.

I'm wondering how far/time I can Run of 12 gallons of fuel.

    Any input appreciated.

Yes I know.....(why)............But it's cold up here and the shop is warm

Hard to say since we don't know what gearing and tire sizes you'll be using. The cortina is heavier than a FB/DSR so that won't help mileage either. I assume you mean a newish ZX10R, and not the original 88-90 carbd zx10, correct?

You can back into it by using 6 gallons per hour per 100 hp at full throttle and be pretty close.

180 hp would be 9.6 gallons for an hour.

so for 12 gallons of fuel you will be able to run for 1 hour and 15 minutes at full throttle.

please note that these are all based on full throttle, in a street application it will be way longer.

My old Contour SVT got 35 mpg on the highway and about 8 on the track.

Default Street driven MC powered cars

I run a stock GSXR 1100 (oil cooled) engine in my Sportech. The car and driver weighs about 1300 lbs. I can get about 25 mpg driving relatively sane. I figure the engine makes about 150hp. I think you'll be hard pressed to get 20mpg if you can get the car weight down to 1800 lb. My 67 Cooper S weights 1550# and your Cortina is a lot larger. You should start with something smaller and it will be a lot more fun. Standing starts (stop light racing) will be difficult and hard on the clutch.

I'm putting this thing together for the Chump Car enduro series in Canada and some Solo events.

    So far by My math:

    1965 MK1 cortina 2 door

    1736 base lbs
    kent and ancilleries
    -260lbs
    transmission
    -85lbs
    window glass/seals
    -43lbs
    heater assembly(core,fan,shroud,cables)
    -23lbs
    carpet/headliner/door panels/knobs/handles/front/rear seats/carpet
    -58lbs
    hood
    -22lbs
    trunk
    -26lbs
    bumpers front/rear
    -27lbs
    ----------------------

    1192 lbs
    +
    zx10 motor/wiring/rad/plumbing
    180ish ( I'm guessing)
    composite hood/trunk
    12lbs
    Race seat
    40lbs
    --------------
    1424lbs maybe

On the west coast a team did a Geo Metro w/1000 CBR in the back seat and seem to be fairly succesful.

The Geo started life 200lbs heavier then the Cortina, I'll plasma/sawzall whatever else out of it and may save 20ish lbs

Ah, chumpcar. I've seen the geo that you speak of. So the motor would be the old zx10, since the 10R is going to cost a bit more then 500 bucks. Stock Hp would be around 125.

Up here We have an abundance of "Rig-Pigs".........Young guys working oil rigs, they make so much $$$$$$$ they crash bikes/snowmobiles/cars like they are playing with Hot wheels.

Most of them have NO insurance for the scrap, You can pick-up a 2007 injected ZX10 for the bar tab they rang up ($300.00)

I have My eye on a 08 Gixxer too

If you'd bother to answer whether you are running the new or old zx10, I would tell you whether I might have parts for it if you need anything. But I guess I won't.

Playing with a 2007 zx10, hopefully mounted this weekend and then build the driveshaft.

It will drive a 30" drive shaft with a slip joint

10 Years ago I mounted a CBR 919 Fireblade in a Super 7 replica and it worked good with a propshaft running a rear differential, the Cortina is the same way.
